    Jul 25, 2012 - NECA Gremlins 2 "Puppet" #1

Mine arrived yesterday so I thought I'd grab a few quick pics for everyone. Few complaints first, this should not be called a puppet, this is a foam and latex statue/figure. Also from the way he was packaged it doesn't really look like NECA cared about how it got here. It was in a big box no padding of any kind and the gremlin was just wire tied to another piece of cardboard, pretty shotty packing. Also where the wire tie goes across his throat is has worn a spot in the latex so it looks like the neck has a small tear in it. I was really hope for something a little more movable too, this joker is stiff. Don't get me wrong I like it, it's my first Gremlins prop but I don't love it.

the bad spot in the neck

some paint bleeding on the spikes

    lots of seem lines

I am on the fence when buying one if these. I don't want to wait like I did on the MR Muppet photo puppets which were also limited in numbers, as those are too expensive on the secondary market. Is it worth the money in your mind? My first thought was that it looked cheap, but what about in your hands? The only real saving grace is that it is molded from production molds.....

    What to do

don't get me wrong it is a great piece to have but I guess from having the MR Muppets I was hoping for some armature in the arm to kind of pose it some ,@ $200 I'd buy another one but definitely not at the prices I've seen on Ebay

I also forgot to mention the stand...it holds the Gremlin nice and snug also if you don't want to use the base for it you can just unscrew it and the holder will mount to the wall

I just chcked them out on eBay and an shocked people are already asking up to $300. I found them selling elsewhere online for $169 plus shipping. That was why I was thinking if jumping on it.

Paint is a letdown, pose not great, packaging sounds bad and if it's foam/latex then you're really only renting one of these, right? Until the inevitable perishing of the rubber. Um.

I know latex has a shelf life and I have seen some older props that are peeling and look like crap. However, after the latex starts peeling, can I peel off the cracked parts and respray with latex? And then do a custom paint job?

Excuse my ignorance on the topic.

Hm, is it posable at all? I'd like to put him next to my MR muppets. The pose on his stand doesn't look that cool, his head is tilted too much upwards.

not posable at all......very stiff...I moved his feet a little further back on the base and it did adjust his body more so he's not staring up at the ceiling. But yeah I'm majorly disappointed that I can't pose him how I want.

Ok, just cancelled my order :-/ I thought it has some wire inside so it's completely posable. If it isn't I don't see a reason to buy a stiff latex puppet that'll fall to pieces someday.

I don't think it looks bad. It looks damn near identical to the stunt prop that it was cast from and it can be found for under $200. That is one hell of a prop for the cost.

Sucks that NECA packaged it poorly and the neck got damaged though.

I was planning on sitting this on the floor anyway, so looking upwards isn't so bad.

Sucks it isn't poseable. Would love to get action shots of him around the house or driving my Mustang. Still probably the only thing I can ever afford that is a 1/1 scale Gremlin though. And I am a sucker for Gremlins.

I wonder if this can be modded to be made pose able? Choose where to make discrete cuts and insert wire and remove foam from certain areas to make it more flexible.

Posable or not, it looks like an awesome piece for the money. Direct from screen used, fully painted, for $200? The price is unreal to be honest, you'd be hard pushed to find a GOOD vinyl kit for that price. And an assembled vinyl kit is definitely not posable, without some sort of super modification, I've owned and built a couple. Painting a vinyl kit requires an expenditure on primer, paint, glue and so on. A professional commissioned paint job might cost you $200.

Looks like shoddy packaging, that could've been a LOT better, but overall I'd say it's a great piece for the money.

Eh, I ordered one anyway. It is a cast off an original and even with a few issues it is still a full size gremlin and I have always wanted one

When ordered it said it will ship in August. They said they won't charge my card until it is in stock to ship. I just checked and they didn't run my card so might be waiting on new stock to arrive.

Price really isn't bad for what you are getting, but I'd venture to say it could have sold for a lot more if it had a posable armature.
