Okay. We went to the Woodcarving show. Lots of cool stuff.
We asked around and there were a couple of guys that said they might be able to, but we would just have to send them better screen caps so they can get the detail.

Woo! I know you love updates so often.
Managed to get one compartment glued in, it looks awesome!
Still have to take pictures and put them up.
Also, we figured out how we're going to magnetically hold the
game shut by using the drill press to make some slight indents
in the border wood and putting a nail head in there. then the magnet
would go in the lids.
Also, we're still trying to figure out how to construct the hinges, if anyone has any
ideas, please let us know.
and all this time i've been saying "we" its my dad and I working on this together.
So, ladies and gentlemen, we were working on the game yesterday. we glued a couple of pieces that we needed to (we procrastinate like mofos). anyway. we glued the other compartment lid to the main lid and it was just barely scrapping the edges so i sanded it down to fit. and somehow, the gorilla glue we used to fuse the compartment hinge to the piece of wood we used, unstuck from the vertical piece of wood. ill post pictures soon to show you what i mean. now this just means we have to go backwards in the process and reglue it. im not gonna be rough handling it anymore, thats for sure.
awhile ago we went a woodcarving show and asked around about Jumanji tokens, one guy told us he might be able to do it with some better pics, (the ones we showedd him were printed) so I sent him an email today, hoping to get a reply!
got the reply from the old guy. said he wouldnt be able to do because the pictures dont show good detail of the pieces. well, I literally went through the whole movie and took pictures of EVERY TIME the pieces had a close up shot, so there was no way he wasnt able to see them. and then i was looking at the Holographic cards on ebay and they show the detail of the front really amazingly so i might send them over to him to see if he'll reconsider.
Also, i think i figured out the glue problem. on the vertical piece that it came off of, we chisled in a small area so the rounded part of the hinge could fit so the lid would fit too. anyway, that chisled area is slightly off kilter so it makes the hinge off kilter.... god why does building this have to be such a task?!?!!???!?!?!?
new picture of glued lid at photobucket link in first post!![]()
also. got the compartment glued with super glue. lol. it works awesomely. thats what we glued the curved part with.
okay, got the same piece glued for the other lid, and since we suck at planning,we have to talk to one of my dads friends and get the whole thing evened out by him shaving it off to make it so. i know, it will decrease the size of the board, but it wont be noticeable,
and hey no ones perfect!
after we get that done, we will move on to the magnets to hold the game lids shut. we have a good idea on how to do that. so... yeah... you already should know from the other posts what that idea was...![]()
So. We got the board scenes out. I sanders the edges and corners to make it more rounded like the original. Next step is to put the magnets in the lids and the metal nail heads in the bottom portion so the lids will stay shut.
Wow. I hate the auto correct on my phone. I meant evened instead of scenes And sanded instead of sanders....
Good to see progress being made.Someone has to finally finish this cursed board!
I can't rememeber if you said, but are you planning to do the diamond pattern along the board edges?

Ah, yes. I was wondering when someone Was gonna ask. I plan to carve a simple version of the pattern, just so its there. I know they're supposed to be inter-locking "teeth" but with my terrible skills, no way. Also, howlrunner, how's yours coming along. And how do you plan on doing hinges?
My board is kinda on indefinite hiatus unfortunately - my woodcarver friend is just constantly too busy to do the playing pieces. I will hopefully get around to finishing the entire board myself, but it'll probably be the Summer Holidays before I start on that (moved into flats recently, so no longer have my parents garden to cut/dremel/sand in). The chances of getting any of the parts that are already done cast in resin is very slim now.
As I've not really done any construction work, I really haven't thought about hinges or how to do them yet - it's just too far off for me.
I have however painted my inside gameboard. It's not 100% finished, but probably 85-90% done paint-wise.
I posted pics of the diamond pattern that I drew around the border. Coincedentally, I got almost all of the areas correct. The part that is wrong is the cut out curve edge where the compartments are, there's supposed to be 2 diamonds but I put in 3 because my edge is slightly different. The pics aren't in the normal album since I used my phone to upload them. But theyre there.
Alrighty! I began work on the diamond pattern. I used a cutting wheel and cut it along the lines. It looks slightly sloppy, but hey, thats almost what I was going for. So it looks like it made with African tools. Don't worry, my next one will be more complicated and better planned out.
I posted a picture of the lid I carved on Photobucket in the snapbucket album.
I will be working on everything else later.
Alright, I used the dremel to cut the diamond pattern on the other lid. Came out just how I wanted and I will be continuing onto the main game border soon.I also posted a picture of the lid in the Snapbucket folder on my photobucket.

hey, guess what, guys?
I dremeled out the diamond pattern on the main part of the game. Next on the list is purchasing small magnets from amazon to hold the game together and a thick wooden dowel to make the hinges with. if you notice, they're slightly curved but flat up against the board. i think we have a pretty solid idea as how to build and connect them to the game.
i plan to buy a large dowel to cut the hinge pieces from to give it that slight curve, im going to need 8 wood pieces, 2 pieces to a hinge.
heres a pic of a game in Sony Studios in Los Angeles as refrence.
I'll try to get them to look as close as i can.
just used an old dowel we had lying around to build a prototype of the hinge. I think we have a pretty good idea how we're doing it. the photo of it is in the "snapbucket" folder on my photobucket
so, we decided that we arent going to use a dowel to make the hinges because of how difficult the dowel would be to cut and shape correctly. instead, we are gonna take a similar design ash123uk used on his game. yesterday I super glued the feet to the bottom of the main game area. Then, I used the super glue to seal off the edges where the path board touches the border boards, because we mistakenly used a nail gun to attach the pieces together and since the connection wasnt a very good one, the pieces moved slightly if handled, and now they dont.. and we definitely wont be doing that again. also, while doing the super glueing, i squeezed the tube to much and got super glue all over my hand, luckily my fingers didnt get stuck together!
Hello again!
I was doing some random research, as I do when I'm brainstorming and such, and I found some decent pictures of the exterior of the game that showed some good angles of the hinges. so im gonna share them with you.
They come from screenused.com in the "SOLD" section under "JUMANJI"
These photos will be what i show the wonderful artist, who is painting this for me, as reference. there are also a few others i will be giving her for the inside and outside.
Anyway, without further ado, here they are.
oops for some reason the pictures didnt upload.
here they are....
