Jun 12, 2012 - My Rambo IV knife and sheath mod...;-) #1

Hi guys...I bought a Hibben IV last week, and like it.A really heavy knife with a great finish.I removed the wrong brown leather band on the handle and atteched a black one. After that I impregnated the grip with matt black acrylpaint..so it looks more weathered and can not marking off again.

After that I moddet the sheath...the original was brown with heavy black weathering on it...and it was open on the lower section, that you can see the top of the knife when its in the sheath.

The Hibben IV sheath is black faux leather and its close on the top,so you cannot see the top of the knife:

Before Mod(below you see the german version..with the lost button on the sheath..I added one on mine):

So...the first I΄ve done is to cut the top of the sheath:

After that you must glue a piece of faux leather over the holes from the seam and press 2 new holes for the leather band. And after that I painted it with a brown weathered paintjob..hope you like it..:

and here some pics of the original knifes and sheath I΄ve found:

    Looks great!

    A couple questions:

    1. Is this a genuine Gil Hibben knife or a United Cutlery knife?
    2. How did you lock off the stitching and hide the holes?

Thanks, happy that you like it...it is a United Cutlery knife:The Hibben IV.
The Original Handmade from Hibben costs over 1400$ and more...so I΄m only a Rambofan and no knife collector. So this is too much for me.

But the cheaper United Cuttlery is the better choice as the licensed Master Cutlery one:

Here all Rambo IV knifes on the market with shape and size..you can see, that the MC is too short and has not the original "Hibbenshape"..so if you don΄t wanna spend a lot of money for the Original Hibben(the best one),the Hibben IV from UC is a good way..:

I locked off the stitch with a normal box cutter. But be carefull..cut only to the point you need to cut down the top of the sheath .I cutted the faux leather with the same knife. After that you can seal the thread with a lighter.
To hide the holes, you must cut a piece of faux leather that you can glue exactly over the lower section. But look, that the edges are glued very good, because when the knife is coming in the sheath it can ripp off all the glued stuff.I used superglue...it works really fine when you press the edges a short period of time.

I was just reading up on this one. Gill Hibben said the handle was actually wrapped with para cord and then wrapped over the cord with grip tape.

    Thanks..happy that you like it.

I painted the stock griptape only with some weathering. So it looks "used" and dirty.
