Aug 5, 2007 - my McQuarrie design Stormtrooper helmet #1

    Hi,Gang
I have meny Pm from member about my McQurrie project ,but I don't have time to do anything cause my kid very busy .Yesterday I have free time then I take pic for you
This helmet I sculpt same time with my C3PO and Darth vader by scath of Ralph McQuarrie concept I want to finished by ABS plastic but now I still don't have vaccumn machine

I select this type cause I think faceplate and head are same with another type but different when cut face and built head !

I stick black tape in black area like in scatch like at cheek I think it should be sticker or paint not hole ???

I cast inside dome of TE ANH trooper for size I take pic compare with my GF ANH hero

    and from top

I try to built my own Vaccumn machine for finishe it or I will cast by fiberglass ?
Please let me know Gang what do you think ?

Looking really, really great. I am always amazed by how smooth your sculpts surfaces come out in the end. What΄s the secret ?

that is amazing! if I were to change one thing, I wouldn't have made the dome so rounded. but that is a minor nitpik to a great sculpt! I can even see the indentations for where the cannisters go! You should give this puppy to sarge and let him rotocast it in resin. It would be perfect.

Superb work Koo Koo. Very crisp and clean sculpting. Do you have any process pictures. Would be great to see how you put this together?

WOW! Very nice indeed! Hope mine comes out half as good as this one.
Although mmore work I think you should do some in FG.But some ABS ones would be nice as well.
Keep us posted on what you decide.

Thanks very much gang I very happy to know you like it
XAnglex : I plan to made mould and vacuum seperate head and face plate like Stormtrooper in film like in pic

And I made dome round cause like this pic

It easy to sand dome flat in mold process befor vacuum ,for this dome I cast from TE ANH trooper version ( cast from inside ) I think size are exactly same ANH Stormtrooper . Another reson I sculpt this versio cause it can made to another ver too see this pic

you will saw 2 scatch in RED Square quite same !! same dome and just a bit diff in face plate but it cut dome different and assembly same like pic ?

A big problem for ABS are how to cut dome to have smooth line ?
    Thanks

    Awesome work !

The roundness initially bugged me, too, but now with the pick it is not that bad.

Again, the question is how did you get that sculpt so smooth ?

What I just noticed is that the faceplate in McQ΄s original design seems to be completely separate from the helmet, i.e. like it could flip up, with the mouth and the tusks going to swing to the left and right side.
In the second pic from the right it looks like the black square is a recessed area, the area that you just made a decal for and placed on your sculpt.

Love the sculpt, but the tusks seem a bit big and too smooth. The side view in the last row of pics is kind of ... irritating. And why does "A clockwork orange" suddenly jump into my mind ?

Well, a FG version would be sharper in detail than vaccum...

I'd prefer FG for that reason.

AMAZING WORK THERE !! really really clean !

This is brilliant. I really like the domed head, and have always thought that this design was more aggressive and less watered down than the final ST sculpt. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread... I've got a renewed interest in helmets as of late...

Bump - I bet a lot of people are still interested in another version of the
McQ trooper helmet. Now that the SGB one is being produced, time for
kookoo to start an interest thread? we can hope!
