My Machined Ecto Goggles

I had posted these a couple years ago at Proptopia, but I am unsure if I ever showed them off here. So, I thought I'd post them again for those that are new or didn't see them or don't frequent the GBProps prop section (where I recently added them http://www.gbprops.com/props/887/ ).

Also I am gearing up to do my 3rd and hopefully final version of the lenses. I am pretty happy with, and pretty sure that the dimensions and details are accurate (still need to add the 2 gun labels to the side of the goggles, I've been meaning do to that since day one more or less), but I want to go over the HD version of GB just to make sure.

The NVG frames are real AN PVS-5 and I machined the optics, face plate as well as side knobs myself (the face plate on the version 2 ones were laser cut) based on my own measurements, research, and scaling from screen grabs and the like. I also did my own labels to be more accurate in size to what's seen on screen. Oh, and the head straps.






These are the second version optics I was commissioned to make for sonicblaster (from Proptopia). I still have not made a set for myself based on the second version of my specs, and there's no point in doing so until I can check the HD GB to make sure I got everything as accurate as possible.




Oh, and before anyone asks...I am not doing any commissioned optics at the moment (if at all), I have been thinking of doing a run of CNC machined ones though, depending on if the price is worth the trouble. They are surprisingly a lot of work, and costly, as sonicblaster can attest to.

I never had anything more than the frames, that would have cost too much, especially given I would never have gotten them into Canada and the only thing needed was the frame.

Excellent work, with the painstaking adherence to film references that impresses me beyond everything else. Could you tell us more about your &#39;lenses&#39;?

Heh heh, yes there have been a couple people that have "bugged" me for a set in the past. I do hope I can arrange a CNC run and offer some lower (at least lower than what I would have to charge to do them myself) cost optics. I of course will wait till I finalize all the details to my satifaction, but you can bet I&#39;ll at least try. Another option will probably be resin casts of them (multi part like my machined ones) as a lower cost alternative. I&#39;ve already lent the frames to someone to be cast.

Anima, did you have any questions about them in particular?

What did you use, for starters? Are they glass? Did you tint/smoke one or both lenses? How did you mount them in their tubes?

For the actual lenses I used CD cases for some and the clear plastic from a picture frame for others. I cut out a piece, used some double sided tape to hold it on something with a flat end in my lathe and then cut them to size. For mounting them I just pressure fit them. It took a couple tries to get JUST the right size where they fit in snug but didn&#39;t warp. Nothing tinted or smoked. Dunno if that helps at all.

Now I know what those laser parts were for I did for you. Are those in these pics ? or are these newer machined face plate parts?

Yep, Heath those laser face plates saved me a bunch of time and looked bloody sweet. They&#39;re the ones used in the "second version" pics.
