Aug 6, 2010 - Master Chief helmet finally Finished. #1

I bought 2 Halo 3 Legendary edition displays and am going to TRY and make them wearable. Not sure if anything can make them fit over my massive mellon but my friend has a smaller head She's a fan of Red Vs Blue so i'm going to tear hers down and paint it blue while mine will stay this color. I'm hopefully going to add visors you can see through (at least for on hers) and am hoping to maybe find them cheaper than on auction. I'm going to wire in lights for on the sides of the helmets as well. She has a character that is sorta like an anime-cat girl but is a wolf so i'm going to make armored wolf ears that she can attatch to her helmet using rare earth magnets just for a laugh. Hopefully this won't be a long drawn out project as its pretty straight forward.
So far i've started tearing down on of them and this blasted thing is built like a puzzle, I swear if i get this thing apart Pinhead and the other hellraiser baddies will show up its that hard to get apart Luckily there isn't much else that needs done to make it game accurate since the outsides are fairly plain. At worst I'll modify mine to be accurate inside and still use it as part of the game display.

Good luck to you! I opened up mine as soon as I got home from the midnight release. Lots of plastic tabs and mountings in there. Saw some kids on Youtube hollow theirs out and fit them just fine. I don't know about it fitting to well on me though. When i held up the shell on top of my head, the sides were already digging in. Didn't look too promising. Might fit a woman's head though. Keep us updated!

Ifound it. They make getting the sucker apart is way too easy. I'm going to cut the parts where the screws go in with a saw instead of fighting with the parts individually.

Just going to throw this out there. This is a kid-sized helmet. Unless you seriously chop it up and change the proportions with a lot of scratchbuilding, you will not make a properly proportioned adult-sized helmet. Most of the 10-15 year-old kids you see that have converted those helms had to maim it by yanking the neck section out.

Here's some of my more regular-sized helms for comparison. Please note these helmets do not fit on people with a head size bigger than 10 or so anyway. You need the really big helms for that. Please excuse the bad photography. I just took those and typed this post right before I'm going to hit the sack.

2 regular 26 cm builds and legendary helm, it's about a 30% size difference

And comparing to another model in Kids size, same scale as legendary

And actually worn. Yeah, I am as tired as I look.

Anyway, that's just to give you fair warning before you start gutting stuff. But if you'd like to get rid of your stands cheap since you're modding the helms I'm always looking for a few for mini terrain and stuff. Feel free to shoot me a PM.

Okay i think pep is out of my patience level. ANyone know where i can find moderately good MC helmets that fit adults at a reasonable price? i don't want to spent 300.00 on each one.

Contact Thorssoli, I have one of his helmets and I can't be any happier. However, I will say, it is a large helmet. It's perfect for me cause of my size, but if she is pretty small stature, you may need to make a custom helmet.

Here's me wearing my helmet (ignore my facial expression lol )

    Yea, I'm 6'7" too..

The book that came with the fancy version of reach actually shows a break down of the helmet and shows some of the interior parts which could be interesting to do or even if i do it with these 2 smaller ones i have.

Don't tick off folks who are nearly 7' tall lol. man now i have 9 mini maglites to put into things as i bought them to light up these other helmets. I still might as they would still make neat displays with working lights.
