    Apr 26, 2007 - Making a prop weapon #1

I need to make something like you see in the photo here. It's Kabuki's Sickle.

I am looking for some suggestions/ideas on how to go about making it. Of if someone wants to make it, that's cool too. I would almost rather commision someone.

My ideas at this point include drawing the basic blade on paper, having it cut in plastic and then sculpting the dragon handle onto the plastic.

Other options could include cardboard covered in fiberglass.

Ideally, I would like to make a mold of this and cast a couple in a resin or something...

    What do you think?

I can't see the picture due to filtering here at work. I googled it and found this: http://davidmackguide.com/production...i/sickle.shtml

Is that the sickle? They are selling a version for $150. Do you still want to make one?

My suggestion (if you don't want to buy it) is to make the blad out of polycarbonate, and the handle out of dowling. It looks like Magic Sculpt will handle the dragon pretty well.

The last update regarding the sickle on that site is nearly 2.5 years old (with no release date known at that time), and the company that is listed as licenced to make them doesn't show the sickle on their website.

Looks like you'll probably have to make your own. Clonesix's recommendation of polycarbonate, wood and sculpey is probably your best bet.

If only the production one was available, but yea, I realized that it was never made. So that puts me back to making it.

So polycarbonite, wood and magic sculpt here I come!
