May 23, 2010 - Mad Max RVS radio build and Bubba Zanetti helmet DONE #1

My Mad Max collection is pretty much based around diferent aspects of the cars and ive finally started putting
together thr RVS radios used in the MFP cars. These scratch built units always fascinated me and i think thy pull off the
future look while staying in the time.

Heres the progress so far, when the cover box is finished, will set the lights up on a movie correct chase pattern.

    Thanks guys,
If i can do it, it would be cool to take the sections of dialog from the movie
using the radio, theres lots, and put them in a chip or something and play them out of the unit from a small speaker.
Has anyone pulled this off with other props?
    Any help would be great.

Forgot to post this. We have lots of these units at work and they are basically the same as the MFP used in the movie. RTS / RVS

Still looking to have dialog from the movie come from an internal setup if anyone can help.

Just saw this thread. I'm afraid I can't help with any build/wiring tips, but as far as what audio to have coming out of it, you might be interested in this:

Thanks Jared, that would be ideal for a replica car owner but my RVS will probably end up in a display cabinet, appreciate the link though, i love the concept.

A mate put together a flasher chip and programmed the only spotable chase pattern. Turned out great.

Just need to put the covering box together now and still looking into getting some dialog out of it.
Got the remaining parts together, just need a fader knob. Having major trouble getting suitable lettering, looks like the old rub on kind.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Couldnt be happier with the end result, not sure about the measurements but only had a couple of pics to go off so its good enough.
The whole unit is very light and has great adaptability. Yet to find the correct
lettering so that part will have to go unfinished but always looking.
The professionaly built ones come in at around $700US shipped so for under a hundy, this is gold.

I already had this old helmet, it was red and without the visor. Although not the same model as Bubbas, its the same shape so a little alu paint and some
greeblies along with a mirror visor i cut out, makes a great replica.

For a sound chip, you can check out ReplicaProps. Here's a link to his site. Sound module programmable sound recorder

I've heard nothing but great things from people in the Ghostbusters community. The chips can be programmed for a wide variety of props. I've not gotten my request together yet but he's apparently a really friendly and helpful guy.

Also, Juno just posted that her dad is starting into prop work. You might drop her a line and see if he can help you out with a custom board.

Brilliant prop, by the way. Thanks for sharing.
