Has anyone ever used this stuff before?

Is there anything else like it that works well?

Yeah it's similar to Balsa Foam; which we used on Spy Hard to sculpt the "Nose" cone. Bought it in huge sheets and glued them together. You can basically sculpt, rasp, sand and machine it. I have used it several times to create quick protos that I could mold and replicate plastic parts. Great stuff albeit dusty as hell. You will need to ware a respirator or really good partial mask and I advise a body suit if you intend on large carvings.
Cheers,
Jeff
Yes, it is what I use for sculpting and armetures. It can be purchased in different densities, 2#, 4#, 6#, and 12#. The higher the density, the more you will spend.
I buy mine direst from an insulation company, but if you want to order it in-line, I recomend this place: http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/product/01327608/
Thanks for the info. Which density is closest to Balsa Wood?
Is it easier to sculpt because it has no grain?
Thanks

Balsa foam is 12 # density.
I sculpt in 4#
you can vacu-form over 6#
