Kurtyboy Archives, 6 Aug: help with rotj vader MOM saber

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 10 Feb 2013. Lightsabers: New builds and upgrades!

AMAzing! Your Obi Wan is to die for. What did you stuff the emitter with? haha Any info on your Yuma, or shared stunt? thank you :) Loving the Archives!

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 10 Feb 2013. Lightsabers: New builds and upgrades!

Here are some of the lightsabers I've been working on recently. Mainly finally getting rid of the last rubber grips and upgrading to real t-track or Gino replicas (if I could just find a decent permanent double sided tape), some painting and weathering, and fun with spinning motors and Scotchlite! :cool

All the bubble strips, Kobold d-ring attachments and circuit boards (where applicable) are real. The V2 lever and cone knob will also be upgraded to real ones soon. I love real.

Not pictured are: Luke ESB 'severed hand' saber and Vader ANH real MPP.

Very nice!

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 10 Feb 2013. Lightsabers: New builds and upgrades!

Thanks gents. The Derwent emitter is stuffed with hot glue. James Kenobi 1138 did that for me on my old emitter but I saved it for re-use later!

The Yuma is from Anakin Starkiller's run and I love the attention to the uneven thickness of each ring. Shared stunt is an Exedge from way back in the old days and lacks such attention to detail, but I upgraded it with a real Graflex clamp complete with ex-Obi-Wan holes and aluminium tape.

These are just the ones I've been working on recently. I have a box full of sabers that I've been collecting since 2002. Just don't have anywhere to display them right now.

please keep adding more sabers to this thread ... and do tell us more about that scotchlite stuntblade and spinning motors?

OK then! More lightsabers on the upgrade path!

And while I do like Gino's excellent replica grips and have five sets of them, I'm also partial to some real t-track and have enough of it to upgrade the rest of my OT lightsabers.

It's not perfect but with a little work using rounded files I get this (Gino's on the left):

Mind if I ask what you used to make the activation box on your Holiday Special? Working on one myself and coming up dry for ideas.

I didn't make it, but it looks like a door bell to me!

:lol Believe it or not, that's the best suggestion I've heard for the thing. Thanks.

Very cool! I still have to replace the grips on three of mine and then also on my Stormtrooper blaster.

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 2 March: SDS Tie helmet mods and all real parts upgrades

I always quite liked my SDS Tie helmet #25. My SDS stunt and hero trooper helmets have gone to new homes but I kept the Tie. A few things really bothered me however, the 'trident' detail was horrible, and the construction in the area behind the trident gaps was wrong.

In fact, having looked at three different Tie helmet manufacturers they all got the construction of this area wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if Gino was the only person to do it right.

So I took my SDS apart and performed some surgery, added in the missing panel, and replaced the trident with a slightly better one from Moncal. I also replaced the mowhawk strip which had cracked, and upgraded all the greeblies to original parts.

This is what the top of the faceplate looked like before. It hasn't been trimmed properly.

After trimming the top of the faceplate and adding the missing panel behind it:

And how it will look once finished. Trident has not been fixed in place yet.

Hoses, 'pill box', forehead greeblies, cone knobs and 'imperial discs': all 100% accurate 'found' parts.

I also had to replace the mowhawk strip as the old one had developed a few cracks over the years.

I may turn it into one of the hero helmets but this will mean removing the cone knobs as only the standard Ties had them :(

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 2 March: SDS Tie helmet mods and all real parts upgrades

Nice job Marcus. :thumbsup
Ps have you ever seen any tie helmet in anh with a cone knob?
I've yet to see one outside of the AA prototype helmet.

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 2 March: SDS Tie helmet mods and all real parts upgrades

To be honest I've never looked. But from your asking I can only assume there are none! The only other place I've seen them are pre-production photos.

Now, I need to add a chinstrap...

Nice job Marcus. :thumbsup

The Kurtboy Archives. Update 14 March: Alien(s) stuff

Here's my small Alien(s) collection.

Pulse rifle is all real parts, drinking birds, tracker bracelet, belt tool, smartgun battery and cups - all original parts as well:

KBALIENS1.jpg

The 4 in 1 flashlight is also original but I couldn't find it so I photoshopped it into this pic which also features my other (replica) Alien(s) items!
KBALIENS2.jpg

Here's my Pulse Rifle case with stenciled graphics. I still need to get CNC foam cut for the inside but it's a little too expensive to do right now :(
