Aug 8, 2012 - Just bought a ironman suit and cant move in it lol #1

    Hi guys,

Ok so I just bought this cool ironman suit from a guy from a car boot sale,

and its awesome, but the only thing is I cant realy move well in it, I can only shuffle around,

Does anyone have any advice or know any threads on how I could modify it and get better movement ?

    thanks in advance

    Wow!
You got that at a car boot?? Would you mind if i asked how much you paid?

Out of interest, regarding the movement issue, how tall are you?

Well when I was walking through the car boot stalls and I saw it standing tall I thought it might be a statue or something, but when I found out it was a suit and it came apart and was wearable I was like OMG

it was just over 900 notes and the guy was very nice and delivered it to my door, it was like all my christmas's had come at once,

im 6ft tall the ironman is about the same

Hmmmm.... It shouldn't be a height issue then. These suits are normally made for people of around your height.
Shorter people would have problems with the leg pieces overlapping and preventing the leg from bending at the knee.
Can you bend your legs at all?

I can a little bit, its a real effort to sit down, do you think I should work on the legs first and be able to walk before I work on the rest ?, I seem to be tripping over all the time when I attempt to walk

Put just the lower half on: boots, legs, thighs, cod.
What is causing you to have problems?

Welcome to the world of rigid armor, movements usually have to be exagerated to be more fluid, and sitting down isn't even a thought in the design process. I had the same issue with a robocop suit I used to own.

I can't sit in my stormtrooper armour. After wearing it I understand how the Ewoks beat them.

I would focus on walking, maybe slightly trimming some pieces to get getter movement. Don't worry about sitting, Iron Man doesn't sit.

Yeah, sitting is definitely not an option!
Good advice above, regarding just putting the lower half on and seeing which parts are preventing your legs from moving

Lol, by the sounds of it this is fairly standard.
In my TK armour i feel almost like a statue most of the time

Take a look at Darren's thread for some great ideas regarding connection points and mobility.

After you figure out your opportunities on the lower half, repeat with the upper half (though you can probably get away with just one arm)

lol its so much different to lycra, oh why did I have to love ironman so much, it would have been so much easier as spiderman lol

its funny you see your heros on TV and you imagine you will be able to move like them, you dont realise you are going to walk like a 94 year old man with severe arthritus lol

Thank you for your comments everyone

I will take a look at darrens thread now, thanks for that kevin

more photos to follow when I start work

Quite honestly that suit looks like it was made for someone a little larger than yourself (perhaps 6' 3" or 6' 4" and around 250 lbs.), so you're going to have one heck of a time getting it to fit at all.

And even if you do manage to modify it to your needs, I fear the suit will be so chopped up that it won't be worth the price you paid for it... if you consider unloading it later on.

Unlike stormtrooper armor, the Iron Man suit isn't really designed to be modular for various body types and heights. That's why you see so many "Iron Men" out there that look a bit ill-proportioned.
