    Jul 15, 2012 - jawa blaster in progress, 0.02c? #1

    hello all,
so i had a bunch of parts laying around from another hobby and figured might as well put them to good use. given that jawas make use of what ever they can find to make weapons, i figure the same applies for me /us. given that i did not have a lee enfield to cannibalize this is not 100% accurate in that respect but i used mosin nagant and arisaka parts and brass bits i found in my garage.
so far what i have done is rough up and buff the bluing off the parts to get a tatooine desert effect. i could have made things brand new looking but figured given the environment it more than likely be cobbled together, hence the emphasis on crude construction. but i have not made the barrel and other parts just yet, i am tempted to make them out of brass.
    comments welcome.
to give a sense of scale my kitten ralf was in the frame.

If you want my 2c worth, based on the look of the other Jawa weapons, make the wood of the stock a lot darker, stain it so it is very dark (a couple of shades lighter than black) and then seal it - if it was old and cobbled together this would better fit that look, plus as they refurbish droids and other salvaged things, they would probably seal the stock with something to protect it from the elements too. If the metal is going to be weathered then the stock should be a little too.

Looks good and while not 100% screen accurate, it is a good homage to the original "found parts" theme of it.

thanks. ill stain it some thing close to black and cover it in clear polyurethane to seal it. i am attempting not to go overboard with the detail. after staining i was figuring scuff it up a bit but then again they save every thing and things would probably not be too abused.
i am going to scratch build the battery pack and i was debating if i should have the Battery pack light up with an LED to show battery life. some thing green yellow red. but that would not be accurate either.
