    Jun 4, 2012 - Ironman Helmet Scratch Build #1

Hey guys I have been working on an ironman pep helmet for a little while now and thought I would post up some pictures. The helmet is sharkheads pep file. So far I would say I have around 20hrs in it. That includes cutting everything out , construction of the helmet and 2 coats of resin. I plan to mold this helmet in the end . I have a friend who wants one and hopefully a few other people will as well but who knows . This is my first pep helmet so any advice or criticism is welcome. Anyways on to the pictures...

I guess that reply can be found in 99% of the Iron Man pep threads as a first post Now get going and hammer away on that iron while it΄s still hot (pun intended)! Continue that build, but you might want to tell your friends to take a look at the Junkyard for already available helmets instead of investing into casting, since you are not the first one to finish a helmet and then make casts, trying to sell them. It΄s a bit complicated by the way to sell those, since you should get the permission of the creator of the pep file before selling something based on his/her work. Please see the Pepakura sticky thread for information, and our Member guidelines.

ill be sure to send a message to sharkhead making sure its ok. Also the friend wanting me to cast him a helmet would also need me to finish it. So it will basically work out to my fee will cover the initial costs of casting so anything after that is just profit

Haven't posted anything on the project in a while so here goes. I have still been working on it everyday though. I plan to cast the finished product in either smooth on 320 or fibreglass ... Any suggestions? Anyways on to the pictures..

Then after a little more sanding , shaping, and filing I put on a few coats of high build primer.. I also drew in my cut lines to get an idea of what it would look like

My goal is to have it cut apart over the weekend and ready for casting with the next week and a half.

As always any constructive criticism is welcomed!

    Thanks for looking

I was able to get the faceplate cut out today. I am not working on laying some fiberglass mat on the inside of the helmet to sturdy it a little bit before I do my final sanding . Should have more pics up tomorrow.

Just curious, but why did you wait to do the fiberglass until after you did everything else?

I coated everything in resin when i started. After I got the faceplate separated from the rest of the helmet somem parts were not as strong as I wanted and I was scared when I touched up everything that some parts would crack or break so I reinforced the inside with fiberglass mat.

Nice work! if I can add one thing - maybe it's just the angles in your pictures, but something about your jawline just seems a bit off to me - the left side of the helmet seems to stick out a bit farther than the right.
