I was wondering if anyone that works with latex could make an impression, or their interpretation of what the burned hand of Toht looked like. I saw one once and it was pretty neat. Just the palm area was done and it probably wasn't S/A, but it was very creative, different and very cool.

This hand gives me nightmares I have been trying to replicate this hand several times but I cannot get the birds head right or the text for that matter .

So, you've been trying to do it? Are you using a headpiece to work off, or what? Are you just trying to replicate the palm?

Could this not be made by haveing a vax casting of the palm and heating up a metal medallion and then pressing it into the casting?anton the swede said:

What I had originally seen looked like just the palm of a hand with the burned impression. Not the whole hand. I supposed you could just drape that piece over a dummy hand, or display it by itself. Trying to do a whole hand would (I think) really make it more difficult.

Paint a few layers of latex on a Headpiece replica then apply it to a mannequin hand. Done. And quite simple.
Where would I go for that latex stuff? I guess it would help if you could paint it, or something to give it that burned look.

If you want it accurate though, you'll have to do a unique sculpt as the hand impressing isn't a true negative of the headpiece. The side that is pressed into his hand doesn't have text at the top (near the menorah symbol) only on the sides (3 and 9 o'clock positions).

You also need to think about the skin being swollen. Considering Toht was way up into nowhereland, it must have taken him a day or so to come to a place to get his hand casted for the german medallion.

I think that might be considering too much. Speaking only for myself, even Indy Magnolis comment might be a little too difficult to pull off. I like SA, but this might be one of those cases where close enough wins the prize!
I'd just like someone that's worked with this type of stuff to take it on. It's way beyond me and my complete lack of talent.

There is another great (b/w) shot of the hand in the Making of Raiders paperback if any of you have it. I don't have a scanner and I don't want to ruin the spine on my book even if I did have one so you'll have to find it somewhere else if you want it. Just giving you the info.
On a trivia sidenote, Toht grabs the headpiece upside down in the film but when he shows his hand it is right side up.
Thanks Agent... I don't have that book. If I can find someone who wants to take this on, we'll probably get as many photos as they need.
