Imitation fiber optics?

So, I am about to start working on a prop and it has a ton of what looks like fiber optics running through it.

Is there something out there I can use to simulate this?

Any suggestions?

Re: Imitation fiber optics?

Couldn't you use one of those tasteless fibre optic ornament things you know the ones that are just a spray of fibres that have a colour changing light in the base ?
Probably find one in a junk shop or garage sale or something for next to nothing.

Yep, no need to find a alternative when the real deal is so damn cheap and easy to obtain they are only $6 on Amazon.com brand new, and they can be had for $3-$4 new on Ebay...

Or you can pick up hundreds of feet of just the fibers on Ebay for cheap, about $10 for 500 feet..

jackdoud has not been awarded enough reputation to matter.
Re: Imitation fiber optics?

If you just want fiber line without the light transmitting properties why not use fishing line?

Re: Imitation fiber optics?

I dont think fishing line will do. It needs to be thicker than that.

Look for small diameter, clear weed trimmer line. Most of what I see is colored but every now and then I see clear.
