What materials are you thinking of using? If this is a statue, I would probably start with blocks of the pink foam and sculpt the basic yoda shape. There's a few routes you can go from there, such as bondo or resin, to smooth out the form and then start adding the details. I'm sure there's lots of ways to go with this, but that's the direction that comes to my mind. Hope this helps.

i started with a bendable Baby Mannequin and then just let progress from there, but as the comment above says you first need to decide on what kind of display you want

A great start would be to use the seach feature here Type in Life size Yoda and you should get plenty of reference material to the great work done by the guys here

maybe my thread helps you a bit:

I put a lot of making of pictures in it, that might give you a clue how to make yours. Even if you are planning to make a static one.
I made 10 static ones as well. The main difference is, that the body was carved from a full styrofoam block, instead of using a hollow vaccuumed body.

You should consider taking some time and researching how the original (ESB) puppet was made. This can be great fun and very educational. You might decided to build yours in some other manner (as described in above replies) but it will give you a good place to start. At the least the research can provide a collection of images for you to use.

I'll help get you started: The making of Yoda part I

Keep us posted on your progress!

I didn't see anything that resembled a tutorial doing a quick search. What's your skill level with carving and sculpting?

I've never tried anything big. i sculpt 28mm miniatures and i definitely have all the necessary tools. i would probably divide up the sections and then i would probably then do the entire thing out of supper sculpty. do y'all think that would be a good base?

The sculpy would be able to get you the fine details. A harder clay might be better, especially if you're planning to mold/cast it.

Trap Joe's thread does have some great pictures of the process he did on his Yoda.
