    Jul 5, 2007 - How Accurate Is This Obi-Wan Grenade? #1

    Hi,

a while ago, I sold my ROTS/ ANH hybrid Kenobi saber. And everday since, I have regreted it. Now that Romans is no longer in business, I'm searching for other means to put this one together again. I've actually been seaching for a Chen grenade, but I came upon this one:

Does anyone know how accurate it is? For that matter, does anyone own one?

Also (sorry to be asking so many questions), does anyone know where to/ how to get a Chen grenade?

As I recall this one predates the Chen and Romans. I don't remember who made it, but I believe that this was a cast replica. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I have one of these Star Wars Grenades on my obi and i like it. Its a nice grenade and a good replica imho. As i far as im aware people have recently tried to get hold of this guy but to no avail, im geussing you will have to buy one of these from the jy if your after one, just like any other repro grenades out there.

The cast grenade has asymmetrical lengthwise grooves, which is not accurate to the Chronicles grenade, but the grooves on the one I had are rounded and small enough that for many it doesn't seem to be much of an issue. The stem is about as close as anything else in proportion and bevel angle. The vane is more accurate than anything but Chen’s in form although since it is cast it is not as crisp. The vane sleeve is not accurate to the prop.

Some ‘editions’ of the cast grenade have some shrinkage and rounding of edges which gives them a ‘gentle’ quality. I have heard repeated claims that some later versions are not significantly shrunken, but I have not seen measurements to know exactly what that means.

To get a Chen you put the word out that you want one, and advertise patiently in the JY, and wait. I have an extra sitting around waiting for me to decide what to do with it, so keep an eye on me, too.

Wow, that's a steal. I think I had to pay 2+ to get one about a year ago.

I have the cast grenade myself.
What I like about it is that it has the curved transition at the base of the neck which is missing on every machined replica.
The shrinkage doesn't bother me. I don't think it's that bad, plus I think the casting just feels real compared to sterile machined versions.

Was it ever confirmed that the prop had this feature?

Yes, it was confirmed with the grenade pictured in The Cinema of George Lucas.
I was told for at least one replica it was left off for ease of machining.

Thanks. The top one looks way better now. That was an early photo. I wanted to keep the symmetrical one pristine.

I've had one of those in the past. I have since upgraded to the Chen grenade but this one is pretty darn nice.

Knowing Stormpath, that's probably his latest little creation.
Stormpath, can we expect a run of this beauty in the near future?
