Hi-Rez Pic request -- ANH PSI closeup (I may have found the plastic)

I found some old light diffuser panels and I beleive they may have the proper pattern used in ANH for R2's PSI. Can someone post or send me a closeup pic of this area so I can compare?

The panels come from my grandparents house we are remodeling (built around late 60's early 70's), so the age is right. So what do you guys think? Looks right to me.

I think the real stuff is diamond. It's the same stuff that's in C-3PO's eyes just the backside of it.

Sure looks six-sided in the pics to me.

Here are 3PO eyes (in Smithsonian). They look transparent as opposed to translucent white.

There's also a question of scale. If you could show a pic with a 1 5/8 circle (even a box) we could understand how well that pattern fits in context with the front PSI I've pictured.

Good point, hard for you guys to see the size. The hexes, from flat edge to flat edge (measuring the front), are 3/16". I will try to get some pics tomorrow showing a proper size cutout (measuring from the openinig my R2 dome) to give you better idea of scale.

I have always heard it was the same stuff as in Threepio's eyes.
Someone on the R2 board should know...

There may be an additional diffuser on R2 to knock out the transparency of it (as seen on Threepio)
Makes it very subtle as well.

I don't think 3-PO's eyes used the diamond plastic in ANH.
Whether or not it is clear or translucent is debatable.

Here are 3 different pics from ANH showing the smaller textured eye plastic.

the r2 dome in art of star wars edinburgh was(in my opinion) the dome used when r2 was getting into the escape pod in anh.

it appeared to have a white "cloth" or some other material over the lense, i copied this for my r2 dome when i was building it. it defo had a fine weave to it.

weather this was original or not i dont know but the rest of the dome looked in a terrible state.

Been there done that. I just wound up using overhead plastic light fixture "diamond" style panel from local home supply store. Pretty close, but I think the pattern is not as tight in spacing as the original pattern shown, but it works.

Funny, in ANH sometimes seems that the PSI is clear in front, almost like it has a lens in front, and other times seems the cloth or maybe a translucent type of very thin mat/plastic (thin fiberglass mat?) was in front of the diamond panel.

If someone has a piece of tighter spacing diffusion material I'd be interested to! I have a bunch of the light panel diffuser stuff I used left over, as I bought a 2X4' sheet...
