Personally I think between 5" & 6" would be right for #8, so I'd go from there. As far as a best guess on the table surface circumference, I'd wager 18" to 23".

I've always loved these little monsters. This one's my favorite! (SPOILER: even though he's bodyslammed to his death in the game.)

p.s. Mr. Barlow, now I know where the #s come from.
We can also use the disk on 3PO's front as a rough way of estimating the hight of the creatures. Considering that he's probably 12-18 inches back from the table edge, I'd say that a height of 8 inches for the savrip is not unlikely. 2 cents![]()
But the more that I look at the picture, Well, you're probably right about the 6 inches.![]()

Cool thread- I am definitely in for a set-
Out of curiosity, I have been searching for these in 3d model form- I know some are bosses in some of the games (KOTOR) but didn't know if someone had modeled the set out there in 3ds/Maya/etc. It might help with this project and would help me with a potential game project- Please PM me if you know where they can be found (I don't wish to derail this thread, too cool a project)-

Just looking at the pic. What is the radius of C3PO's Belly circles? Couldn't that be used to scale?
I've started sculpting #7 (have head and torso roughed out - just need to detail). It's to scale of the size of Barlow's #8, so the set will match.
I'll post progress pics on Friday.
The cool thing about this project is that all the pieces should match up in size and look because we're all replicating someone else's sculpting style.
Another thing I thought of would be to cast these in RTV with a wireframe so they could be like the 'bendy' figures (i.e. posable). But that's ahead of things...

Now that would be cool. Do them in either white or gray so they could be painted by the individual. Painting them ourselves should keep the costs down.

Now that I have some more free time I'm tempted to take a whack at sculpting one or more of these guys....
As a side note, the ride that the chess table was on display at was closed for remodeling the last time I was there.... I've got friends that work over there though so I'll see if they can give me an update on its whereabouts....
Just make sure you post what number you're working on so nobody duplicates effort.
One concern I would have. Does paint stick to RTV? I know part of the reason to use it in mold making is because nothing sticks to it.Originally posted by rigormortis@Feb 15 2006, 12:36 PM

I have the same concern about paint there. Poseable would be neat, but I think for most of us, straight resin pieces would likely be the easiest.
I agree that anyone working on one should note which they're doing here so people don't cover the same ground. It'll also give people a chance to share refs with you if they've got any of the guy you're doing.

Finally found a pic of the one I mentioned earlier.. The fellow only made one...
I was thinking there was two.. The figs were made of sculpy...
(BTW, the white square in front was one of the table lights that we found to duplicate
the mos eisley cantina table lights..)

I would far perfer to paint my own, regardless of the medium (i.e., Resin, RTV, mashed potatoEs..) I was deeply in to fantasy Role Playing as a teen and young adult and have painted hundreds of tiny lead figurines. I got to be pretty good, too. A five - eight inch character would be a walk in the park.

Couple years back there was an excellent RPF thread on the table and figures. IIRC iit never got archived.
Here are pics I saved from thatn thread and probably other research. My apologies if I use someones image here w/o permission.
Discussed using oversize fiberglass tire covers as table top.
Above 3 images were supplied for construction reference.

Love to see the table or figures or both become a project.
Wow. Thanks for pulling those out and for a nice pic of the one I'm sculpting (Grimtaash). I should have something to show this weekend (thank god for 3-day weekends).![]()
Here's another casting suggestion. Clear Resin, then painted with transparent colours.
I'd agree that the casts should be unpainted (white or clear) so the end owner can do whatever they wish.
I am in for a set for sure. I actually would rather one of our amazing members here paint them for me, as I don't do small things well, helmets, armor all that fun jazz is simple for me but little stuff is beyond my skills.
Someone had asked for pictures of the original table. My family and I went to Disney MGM last summer and I took one pic:

This is my crappy pic I took last summer. Looks to be the same side unfortunately.
