Halo Reach Shotgun
Hey everyone. I posted a while back with a helmet and armor (which is still coming along. At a steady pace) But while I was growing tired of all the sanding work needed to finish the armor off i got side tracked with some poplar wood, a dremel and a scroll saw.
So, here goes. So i started a while back and only now thought to post it on this Forum. Its on the 405th as well, and updated when i find time. I might skip the older photos and just show you all what i have at the moment. .![]() It assembled, pegged together with dowels, but not pinned. ![]() A close up of the front. ![]() Close up of the handle and butt end. ![]() ![]() An example of how the sights are attached. ![]() Where the dowels slot in. ![]() How the barrels and end system are slotted in. ![]() The barrel and end system. ![]() The pump action. (it works, and will later have a spring set inside it). ![]() The hole that the bottom barrel slides into. So thats what i have at the moment. Hopefully you guys enjoyed it. Leave a comment and tell me what needs to be improved/changed. Been looking at it to long and can't pick anything anymore. Also, sorry about the messy work bench, it gets away from me sometimes. .Oh and the reason for the gaps between several pieces is because i didn't have the pins in to hold it in place. (they're a pain to take out and put in) There'll be updates at some point, can't promise on a regular basis, but there will be updates. . Once its all sanded down, and then when its painted. If you want a photo of it completely broken down just ask. . And you shall receive.Cheers guys. Dave out. |

Re: Halo Reach Shotgun
![]() The shotgun, I’ve done a little extra detailing and sanding. Primed so i can pick out what needs to be done (and hide the patches of bondo) ![]() The front end of the gun. ![]() Back end, notice the handle. ![]() I attempted to achieve the grip seen on other weapons, kind of got it…. ![]() Thought those that hadn’t seen how many pieces it breaks down into would like to see it. Everything is attached by dowels and pins. .![]() The helmets, having taken a back seat. They’re for sale if anyones interested. .That’s the update for now guys. . Tell me what you guys think. Criticism is always welcome. Cheers, Dave. Last edited by XxCALIBERxX; 06-20-2011 at 01:36 AM. |

Re: Halo Reach Shotgun
Yeah, this piece looks stellar so far, but is going to need quite the bit of Bondo and spot putty to smooth out your details on the wood. I might recommend using some styrene next time to work out the details when you have the primary shape carved out of the wood. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache.
Props though! -Arcko |

Re: Halo Reach Shotgun
Thanks guys!
. I think anything that you are happy to work with is a good material. Styrene, as mentioned before, works well, and if you are planning on moulding the peice you don't need to worry about it being structurally sound. I personally chose wood because i ahve been working with it a majority of my life and am quite happy chiselling and sanding. Not to mention that I wanted to check out some of the dremel peices and see how the work. The woods pretty good to work with. The problem i had was that we can't buy the Poplar (really soft and easy to work with stuff, the next level above balsa) in Australia. So I had to cut planks myself. Which presented numerous problems. Mainly that it wasn't top qaulity straight grain wood. Which affected what i could achieve. And as you can see that some of the peices have got that frayed kind of look. But so far sandpaper seems to work wonderfully. And a dremel does a great job at carving those hard to reach peices flat. Just lots of work. . Ah well. Its getting closer and closer to done. .Keep it coming. .Cheers guys. |

Re: Halo Reach Shotgun
Hey everyone! Back again… I got run over by a truck, that’s why I haven’t updated you guys recently. That and I’ve been a lazy basterd, but all the same. .
Anyway, onto the update. Watch the video if you are so inclined. I have a Borderlands mask on the go and I also have one of the helmets half painted in the video, so If you are interested in that go for it. If not take a look at the pics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=535XvLmxa-A ![]() Made up the torch attachment. Added some details to the pump, the white slits are for the torch attachment. The pump with the torch. ![]() The trigger system, it has a spring on the internals. (see the video for details on it). That’s all I got, tell me what you guys think. Cheers, Dave! |

Re: Halo Reach Shotgun
For the flashlight you might try shoving a Surefire G2 or one of the cheaper metal models to get some illumination, for fun. Great work, it is coming along very nicely. How did you get the wood cut? CNC or by hand or something?

Re: Halo Reach Shotgun
Hey man!
. Yeah, i was thinking of getting one of the el cheopo LED lights that are sold at the supermarket, just for ****s and giggles. . But I dunno what it sould end up looking like. Thankyou for your nice comments too! The wood i cut with a scroll saw and detailed with a dremel and file. Took ages! . But worth it. God i wish I had a CNC machine! Life would be so much easier! .

Re: Halo Reach Shotgun
Okay. She's done, modelling wise, now I just got to paint it. Who would be interested in a casting?
.If I get enough genuine interest I'll mould it and cast a few copies. Halo Reach Shotgun (Modelling Finished) - YouTube Cheers, Dave. |

Re: Halo Reach Shotgun
Hey guys! Thanks a lot for the kind comments!
Ummm, as of yet I am still not sure. It would require a lot of silicone to get the whole thing molded and in effect would be quite expensive. Somewhere around 400 I'd say. :/. But again, not sure if I will mold it yet. . I'll keep you all updated though! Cheers, Dave. |
