Fully Auto Nerf Pulse Rifle with counter, sounds, lights the works !

Hey Guys and Gals,
After seeing the awesome work RPF member Quest did building this Nerf Pulse Rifle
http://www.therpf.com/f9/nerf-aliens-pulse-rifle-build-142668/
and seeing some of the work others have done with Nerf Pulse Rifles I decided I wanted to give this build a go.
The fact that I am already a Nerf modder and that I love Aliens made this the perfect project for me to embark on.
I love what Quest has done with his build but the base gun is only a single shot Nerf recon and I wanted to take it a little farther and use a fully auto Nerf gun so I was originally thinking the Nerf Stampede would be the go.
After doing some research I found someone had already done a Stampede version (below)
http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/153/5/6/nerf_stampede_pulse_rifle_by_meowymeowmeow-d5217ip.jpg
It's pretty good but a little bulky but in the meantime I discovered the Nerf Rapidstrike, once modded it shoots harder and faster than the Stampede AND it can be cut down smaller, so this is what I am using.
I want this to be next level so I will be using a sound card for sound effects, it will have muzzle flash and a working ammo counter also (if humanly possible lol) ...So ...here is a short video showing what the rapidstrike is capable of.

So using Quests patterns for the shrouds etc I set off on the build.

Now that the pieces are coming together time to introduce the cut down, highly modified Nerf Rapidstrike.

Add the Longshot front gun and integrate and here is where I am up to so far.

Still a lot to do but I will post up more pics etc as I make progress and then a video etc of the final product.
Cheers,
Jodocast.

Very cool! Interested in seeing where you are housing the batteries and how you attached the longshot font gun to the rapidstrike ;)

I am using 4 X 3.7v trustfire batteries for the power supply and it looks like I only have a couple of options where they will fit ... I will keep you posted and put up pics of how and where I mount them.
Cheers.

Cheers!

I'm in the process of making an M41a myself, using the more usual Longshot/Recon/Raider parts. A full auto would certainly be fun, and perhaps one day, an upgrade to my current combo to consider. Most of the work for my gun will be in the shroud, so replacing the actual gun part would be relatively speaking, pretty easy.

Very true Dyno,
I am using the same shroud plans and adapting the gun to suit rather than the other way around, it's a little tricky but I'm getting there.
Here are some more pics showing the adaptation.

I will post more pics as I make more progress :)
Cheers

Looks like you're doing a fantastic job, the cut lines on your shroud are sharp! Can't wait to see more progress.

I'll put up a thread detailing my build a bit later, hopefully we can both learn something from each other as we go! I suspect however that mine might be slower progress as I have a three week old baby to look after, and for some reason she doesnt seem to enjoy time spent in the garage ;)

The edges are sharp at the moment but I haven't started rounding them off yet .... I will soften the edges to look more like the real thing before painting :)
Cheers

Oh sorry, haha, I meant that as a compliment!

Im using MDF to make my shroud. Itll mean I can hopefully round off the edges quite a bit to get the same look as the original. I might also be able to vacuum form multiple shrouds relatively easily, but we'll see!

I actually took your comment as a compliment but then a mate obviously took it the other way and said "but you haven't even finished them yet" lol
so ...Thank you :)
Here is a link to some more work I have done :
Cheers

I made a little more progress last night

I cut the trigger down so it looks more like a real trigger from the outside and installed the trigger micro switch.

Really starting to take shape now :)

This is the kind of project that made me want to join this forum, and check out great projects.

Fairly intimidating to see from a noobs POV, but all so very cool.

Good luck on the rest of the build. I hope to learn quite a bit.

I am in a happy place right now. As a Nerf fan and an Aliens superfan, this makes me completely giddy!
Also it's so smooth and perfect.... great stuff.

WOW ! .... Coming from you Nerfenstein ... what a compliment ! ...thank you. :D (I'm a big fan of your work !)

Well I'm almost there :D
Just iron out the bugs and finish a few little bits and I'm done !

It's so amazing, I have no words.. it's so.. neat.. and flat and wonderful! I'm going to go tell my pal Chris from Combustible Props about this thread as he will love it too!! Amazing!

Duh.. and thank you for what you said.. appreciate it xxx

Chris's build using the "Stampede" was one of my inspirations ! ... I was originally going to use a stampede but then the "Rapid strike" came along and I was able to modify it to a level higher than I have achieved with the "Stampede"....

see test video comparing the two

Since I made this comparison video I have found replacement motors that get even better FPS figures so I had to use the "Rapid Strike" plus when I looked at the size of the two the "Rapid strike" was much closer to the "Recon" which the shrouds were originally designed to fit so ..... well, you can see the result hey lol.
