    Aug 2, 2009 - Flash Ring #1

With all the work going on about Green Lantern rings, I was wondering if anyone had ever done a Flash ring?

I like the idea in the comics how the costume was compressed and concealed inside the ring.

    http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Flash%27s_Costume_Ring

I've seen the various convention plastic rings given out (with a GL ring) but I don't think they open at all. I think this would be a neat ring to have and wonder if anyone had ever tackled the idea or not?

I had thought about "poison" rings maybe being modified or customized or something like that?

    anyone? ideas? suggestions?

There was a Flash Prop ring put out a few years back, brass with gold plating I think that opened and had the "flash costume" inside. It had a really awesome base as well. The comic shop I grew up buy always had it for about $150, never sold in the years I lived there, maybe it's still there lol.

For those who care from Wiki:

"Central City University professor Ira West (Iris' adoptive father) designed Allen's uniform and the ring which stores it while Allen is in his civilian identity. The ring can eject the compressed clothing when Allen needs it and suck it back in with the aid of a special gas that shrinks the suit."

There was a Wally West Flash action figure released a few years ago that includes a Flash ring. The cap is spring loaded and pops open when you push a button on the side, and inside is a small (permanently attached) folded Flash suit.
And about the shrinking gas, in a universe filled with shrinking people and matter teleporters and freeze rays and hypnotic tops... shrinking gas isn't too far fetched.

I've seen two versions of the ring. One has the lightning bolt on it and one doesn't.
Of course it would probably make more sense for the Flash not to have the lightning bolt on it since he's in his civilian identity. Might as well wear a ring that says "I'm the Flash!"
I do like the idea of the miniture costume on the inside of the ring. Without it in there... the one with the lightning bolt would be the better one to have... otherwise it just looks like a ring and wouldn't be that interesting a prop. Mainly because a lot of people wouldn't know what it was right away or without being told. Unless you had some type of plaque or display set up to tell people.

Of course either version would be great to have.

Actually I wonder if it would be better if the lightning bolt was on the inside of the hidden compartment.

I don't think I've ever seen the ring without the lightning bolt. It has been more conspicuous from time to time, though. Sometimes it's all gold with a raised lightning bolt, sometimes it's gold with a red circle and raised lightning bolt.
I know Barry sometimes keeps it in his pocket and Wally had a suit made of Speed Force energy and didn't wear a ring for a long time, though. And both had wedding rings, so it could be easy to think they were wearing the ring when they weren't.
If you think about it, the Flash in Central City and Keystone City is a full blown pop culture phenomenon. I've seen other characters with Flash earrings, t-shirts, necklaces and even tattoos. It makes sense for someone to wear a ring with a Flash symbol and it not seem too out of place. Plus both Barry and Wally had a public identity for a while.
