    ...or at least the bottle.

Passing through Missouri, I decided to hit a few flea markets. I actually found 2 bottles, but the stopper was missing on the 2nd one and I didn't really need two.

Congrats on the purchase! This reminds me that I need to re-paint my own bottle to be TOS accurate.

Thanks! I have been debating making the change in color. It is so obvious what it is w/o any changes.

I've owned and converted at least a dozen over the last 10 years.
Paint it. It will make a huge difference. It just looks like something that belongs in the TOS universe.

    Man, that bottle is beautiful!

I second what Funky Jedi said. Paint that sucker.

I just finished painting mine yesterday and it just tickles me to no end every time I walk by it.

The only trepidation I had was scraping off the Dickel stickers but once I wrapped my head around the idea that the bottle's real value comes from it's place in the Trekverse I had no problem converting it.

I think mine came out okay...

(If you do paint it post up pics!)

I've got 2 of these, one in the light color and one in dark, but the stopper is missing on both of them. I'd really appreciate it if someone could post some good pictures of their stopper with measurements so I can fabricate a couple out of wood. by the way, what are the original stoppers made out of?

I was able to get one from Ebay but didn't have the stopper. I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any ideas on how I can make one that will work?

It's made out of wood. If nobody else posts the measurments/ dimensions I'll do it tonight and take a couple of pix when I get home.

I also have 2, the darker one was seen on DS9, and if I ever get a decent reference pic of the writing that was on it, I'll convert that. I need to add a new cork to my stopper.
For those that have painted these, what's the best paint?

Your bottle looks great but if I may, I'd like to make a suggestion that really helps finish it up.
Go to your local hardware store and pick up a packet of screw-in eyelets (though you only need one). Get them in gold and buy the smallest ones you can find. Screw it in the center of the cap (where the original one was. Then go to Hobby Lobby and pick up a bundle of red, sued lether string. Tie one end to your eyeley and the other to the top of the handle. Make sure you give it at least 3 inches of slack. Now it's more accurate and you won't lose the lid.

    Thanks Funky!

I'm going to take your advice on the sued string thing. I had a leather shoe string I was going to paint but that seems like it would be stiff and unworkable.

I literally finished painting it yesterday so it was neat to log on here and see Force Commander's thread.

The cork was broken on the lid so I scraped out the old one and am going to replace. Luckily I have a winery that sells supplies so I found the perfect sized cork.

The paint is actually orange-red Chevrolet engine paint that I picked up at Napa Auto for anybody that's interested.

Wow, now I feel like I really need to paint it. Great stuff!

I wonder if I could cast a stopper, I should take a good look at it.

Here's some really old pics of my DS-9 version bottle. All I had to work from was that picture in The Art Of Star Trek, so I just made up a lot of symbols for the areas I didn't have good reference of.

It was a neat project that only required some dark gray spray paint and a gold paint pen.

I don't normally use internet slang, but OMG! That is an absolutely amazing interpretation of that bottle. I own the Art of Star Trek book, so I know the limited info you had to go on, but if you hadn't said you'd made this yourself I could easily believe these were long-lost photos of the original!
I don't suppose you have any clearer images of the writing? If you don't mind I'm going to make mine bassd off of yours.

I still have one of the originals, full and sealed from Dickel. I hate to open or customize it at this point since it's so old.

'Fraid not, I sold that bottle long before I had a better camera. I cleaned up the photos as much as I could, but what you see is all I've got.

Thanks for the kind words, though

Winston- That bottle is really, really cool. Nice work, man. If I get another one I'm going to try and do it like yours.

Sorry Sparticle, I got distracted. The bottle top has odd dimensions where it's perfectly symmetrical on the bottom and has that strange slanting, oval shaped top.

The bottom is 1 1/2" around. It sits perfectly flush with lip of bottle. The short side of the lid meets the point of the oval top at 3/4" and the tall side of the oval at 1 7/8". The oval on the top is is about 1 3/4" by 1 1/4" with the eyelet for the strap dead center.

I posted pictures of the thing in my profile gallery.

It sounds like it really would be great of somebody to do a run of these lids since lots of guys seem to have the bottle without the lids. I'd do it myself but I just finished painting it and attaching a new cork, etc.

As for the other bottle- I don't know what it is but it just looked kind of "alien" so we picked it up. I'm building a Tardis wet bar cabinet and there's going to be sci fi bottles mixed in with real stuff like tequila on the door shelves. That bottle, and the Jeannie bottle which we stumbled accross in an antique store, are going in there. That Jeannie bottle is going to be a BEAR to paint, btw. Really detailed item.

I'd been wondering what to do with my dark glass Dickel bottle.

I managed to get a pair of the TOS-accurate light amber bottles for making my Saurian brandy bottles, but only one of them had a stopper, so I ended up buying a dark glass bottle just for the stopper. After painting the light amber bottles Classic-Trek-style, I was left with the dark glass "orphan."
