    Hi there!

It's been a long long time since i'm browsing the RPF, watching all of your awesome work and learning from all of you. And today, finally, I got the courage to show you one of my prop-wannabes

Of course, that means that's my first post, and I wanted to show you a simple modification and repaint of a toy revolver, inspired on Fallout New Vegas. Concretely the New california Republic ranger revolver.
It's not a really big work, but I really want to recieve your critics and advices about it

    here it goes:

Very nice paint job. Did you actually carve all the scratches or are they just painted? Either way, it looks phenomenal.

EDIT: I'm curious to know your painting technique for this. How do you get the weathered/grunge look? I'm going to be painting my Pip-Boy 3000 resin cast soon, and I'm getting as many painting tips as I can to achieve the genuine weathered look.

I carved the scratches and applied big grain sanding paper (i'm translating directly from spanish so sorry if I don't say it well hehe) so all the surface got "damaged". Then I airbrushed the painting and added lots of "ink" layers, so them got into the holes and did a more volumetric effect.

I'm so glad you liked it!

man you did a Pipboy? I totally need to see it haha. I want to try creating my own Pipboy this summer, I'm in hope you can give me some advice

Anyway, my paint technique is relatively simple. I used to use the classic CITADEL paints (from warhammer) or Vallejo acrylics. (GameColor)

1- With big sanding paper, cutter, dremel etc, I do all the "damage" to the weapon.
2- Apply Citadel Black Primer. Then paint all the gun, trying to get the paint job the most perfect I can.
3- I apply black acrylic over the zones I'm more interested on, trying to get it the deeper I can on the scratches
4- Before it's dry, I remove the most of the painting with paper. I also use the painting on the paper to "stamp" it over clean zones. (that gets better with practise, I ruined some works learning to do this well haha)
5- Inks, inks, Inks! Acrylics with medium thinner and a lot of water, on the tones I want to the gun. ( I used brown, orange and green on these one if I remember well) Let it dry a bit and then remove the excess with paper again.

And finally I use to apply Citadel's Satin barnish to my pieces. It guives a smooth effect and longs the life of your paint job.

I'm in hope that this helps you

I really want to see this pipboy!!

Wow, that is totally great. The finish looks just like the in-game weapon.

Unfortunately, I don't own an airbrush, but the paper method for removing paint and applying paint to other areas sounds feasible.

I plan on posting pictures of my Pip-Boy later when I've made more progress. There are pictures on my blog, which you can find a link to on my profile page here. In the meantime, there are many other threads here on this forum of Pip-Boys that people have built. Just do a search for "pipboy" and you'll get lots of results.

I took a look to your blog, and It's amazing your devotion to the Fallout Series! hahaha.
How much was the pip boy resin cast? It would be interesting to get it done and do some dremel magic on it hahaha.

I bought the resin cast from Skruffy. He's a user here at the forums. If you look in the junkyard, you'll find his sales thread. You can send him a personal message and ask him for more details, but you should find all the relevant info, including current pricing, in his sales thread. Skruffy is where most people on this forum get their Pip-boys.

The user at this thread linked below made a very nice replica Pip-Boy from scratch. You might check it out and see if you get any ideas. Here's the link:
