eFX Luke ROTJ Lightsaber Reveal Preorder Finally Coming Up

had the opportunity to speak with byran in person over the weekend and got chance to play with two prototypes (the one shown at SDCC and the version after that which features a smoother sliding mechanism for the forward section among other improvements), and they are friggin gorgeous. The locking mechanisms feel tight and secure yet smooth when opening and closing. as far as the electronics go, the set up is pretty sweet. there are two sets of LEDs, one set for the arrows that are activated when a button is pushed on the circuit board in the control box, and the LED's for the crystal are activated by pulling the black button on the side of the control box back. a ton of engineering work as put into this. Not nearly as heavy as i thought it would be though.

Dang. I bought my MR saber days before the eFXannouncement. Looking forward to seeing people's pics of the saber once it's out

it's missing the black box too, but it seems like it's in construction.

It's a prototype. It looks like the arrows are the old MR ones (as placeholders) which were plastic that plugged into round holes (hence why it rotates).
The final saber will have real triangle LEDs.

That's awesome. This thing is too cool. I do have a question though... forgive me if this has been covered before,but does it have a re charge or does it run on a watch battery of some kind. This is a must have...could't resist reserving one and I've been out of the saber market for years.

There are three little hearing-aid batteries in the control box.
Don't know if that's for just the triangle LEDs or if that's for everything.

Oh Ok...makes sense. I hope they last long without changing. I'm going to have a hard time not playing with this one.

The ridged brass rods look like "cycling field energizers". A detail apparently derived from the ANH saber in the Visual Dictionary. No SW books have addressed this particular lightsaber yet.

"Cycling field energizers"! God, I love technobabble. (Seriously, I do; must be why I love Trek.)

It will be critical to get proper mileage out of this prop to explain the inner details to others.
If eyes are not rolling during the explainations, I have failed.

EFX now lists it as Sold Out.

I haven't been excited about a lightsaber in a long time. Does anyone know if there is a blink sequence for the arrows? I assume so,but just curious. I can't wait.

No kidding, right? I'm super excited. Takes me back about 5 years to MR lightsaber euphoria!!!

Almost makes me wish I could still afford this stuff. It's the first thing in a long time that looks cool. I'll have to cop a saber "contact high"

BigBadToyStore is still taking pre-orders.

There's also a dealer on ebay that has 2 up for sale as pre order. They have great feedback and give great email updates. You may want to buy from them. I think they request $50 deposit and that's it until it ships.

I pre-ordered from BBTS myself. Actually, for something like this, it might be better than ordering direct. With BBTS, you don't have to pay anything at all until the prop actually ships, and it's also super easy to cancel your order if you decide you don't want it after all.
