    Jun 30, 2011 - Ecto-Goggles (Finshed) #1

Finally getting around to starting my Ghost Busters uniform and props. So I figured I start with the easiest thing the Ecto-Goggles. This is about all I could get done today. Tomorrow sand, prime, and paint.

Update 7/2/11 - Well finished for the most part, have a few areas where I need to clean some adhesive off an touch up some paint under the right lens where it chipped during mounting it. Might add some decals later.

Not bad at all! One recommendation though... change out the metal lens ends with simething PVC painted silver to look like metal. The metal parts are quite heavy, and you end up with something very front heavy, and they won't stay on your head.

Also, the whatever lenses you use glued to the visor portion have a good tendancy to come off, because the glue can't adhere to the smooth plasticglass of the lense.

Some people use small screws, some epoxy, some gorilla glue.. it depends on what the lenses made from.

Good luck, and look foreward to finished pics!

Nothings glued to the visor yet, that 4th picture is just a mock up. The pvc bushings actually fit really tight in between the plastic of the visor and the frame so much I don't need to use glue but I'm going to anyway. Been using Loctite Stik n' Seal drys clear, ive heard that gorilla glue sometimes foams up so stayed away from it. Epoxy will be my last resort if I need it, don't want anything stuck for good as of right now. Going to get a new set of straps for the head tomorrow so I can compensate for the weight. All of the metal parts are being sprayed with a metallic grey; with exception to the left lens that will all be black, the visor is going to a camo green, all the pvc parts will be black.

Careful painting the rubber "hood" if its not done right, it'll NEVEr dry.. one of our goggles isn't dry and is still tacky after 2.5 years!

We added the ove the top of the head strap, and that helps for stability... we also ended up replacing the thin straps with the much wider ones as well. Lots of various goggle builds over at GBfans to look over for tips/tricks, BTW.

Ya I know about gbfans, lot of good stuff over there. I had read a topic on their forums about people having problems with the paint not drying that's why I'm going to do 2-3 coats of primer first to make sure. Using Krylon Ultra which couple people said worked really well and doesn't crack when the vinyl moves. Going to put clear top coat on top of it just to be safe.
