The diameter seems right but the depth isn't. The one from the show was actually quite fat, like one of the old, old styles of pocket watch.

The biggest problem I've had with the watches I've found is the lack of a flat cover.
Here are some more screencaps, just in case anyone needs them:
These are from Human Nature and Family of Blood, I think.
Thanks! I have all the art done, just no pocket watch to use it on!
I've found the donor watch - give me a while to post it up!

Here it is!
It's from our old friends Dalvey (Smallville used a compass of theirs years ago).

Although the face is different - the prop must be old Dalvey stock, or perhaps
the propmaster made a new face. Shouldn't be too difficult for the PS gurus here.

Changing the face is easy - you just need to make a color print on card stock and swap them. The hard part is not damaging the hands when you take them off and put them back on.
I like the idea of it being a functional piece. I can't wait to hear more about this project.
I actually walked down the Dalvey road when initially researching the piece. The Dalvey has a brass plate on the lid that would need to be removed (the company WILL do it). Also, the Dalvey runs around $120.
sorry if this is a dumb question..but who did the engraving?? And is there anyone that has a good engraver I could contact??
The pieces I posted in the beginning of this thread were drawn by me and done by a laser engraver. I am pretty sure a traditional hand-engraver would not be able to reproduce the detail required. I don't even know if having magnesium etched would work.
Just found a near exact watch today at Target for $20.00. I will get one and post pics, if I know there is a cover in the works! Otherwise I really don't need another watch....
Just did a seach on targets web site. Found this. $20 bucks as he said.
Need to change the face and the hands though.

Stopped by the local Target today to get a look at the watch. It measures only 1 7/8 inches in diameter. Does this seem too small to anyone else? Did anyone ever get a size figured out, or is the Dalvey one any bigger?
I'm eager to see someone reproduce this prop...anyone going to get the Target watch and engrave it with the Dr. Who pattern?
I have all the engraving patterns done -- front, back, and inside (for the dials). However, I'm unhappy with the watches I've found, and I'm at a loss as to how to take a flat laser cut and fit it to a curved watch back.
I have no problem modding the watch face (I've done it tons of times!).
Anyone want to partner up with me?
When my wife first saw the Doctors watch she said " Ohh I like that, anyone on those prop sites you visit making one? I think she would be happy with a static resin one. Although that doesn't help with finding the correct size of watch, does it.
Test laser etched on a crap brushed gold pocket watch. The finish screws it up a bit, and the design is off center (we were testing). What do you think?

That looks positively amazing, Juno. I mean, may not be entirely accurate, but.. wow. That's fantastic.
The engraving is an accurate design, but yeah -- the watch is CRAP!
Either way that is pretty awesome! The top picture sells it for me! Nice job!
Nice. Find a decent watch and I'm sold.
Seriously, that's fantastic.
