I haven't seen this posted here before, so I figured I'd throw it out there in case anyone was interested.

I have a video of this, and I have uploaded it to youtube. Once it's done processing I'll post the link. It's a short video, about 40 seconds, no sound so I just slapped a song into it.

Yeah, that cowling in attatched to a spring-loaded pin that, once detatched, allows you to unscrew the front of the pistol. You can see Jayne cleaning and reassembling this gun in the beginning of "Ariel".
