So Bungie was kind enough to provide hi-res wallpaper layouts of many of the guns from their new game, Destiny. There's a ton of guns from this game that I really want to build, but I've already got a number of projects in the pipe. So I decided to pick up the Hand Cannon and work on it between other projects.
Drafted my patterns in Illustrator first. Bungie was so thorough they even gave an exact measurement for the length of each weapon. So the whole drawing was scaled down afterwards.
The cylinder seemed like the first obstacle to tackle. You could just dremel the grooves into the sides of the cylinder, but I wanted a more uniformed machined look. I took my BPs and layed them out on 3/4" MDF for four layers. I might mold and cast this guy so I didn't bore the cartridge slots all the way through. I used a Forstner bit on the three forward layers and a standard Bradford bit halfway through the last layer to give me the rounded ending of the groove. When everything was bored out, I cut out each section and stacked them. They'll still need some Bondo to fill in seams, but so far so good.
