I was able to find 2 3/8 inch DoRay lenses. Part # 2029

    http://www.taillightking.com/misc_lights_Red_Round.htm

I'm searching the site to see if they're available in other colors. I've also been in contact with "The Taillight King" and I've asked what is available. I should here something soon

    Hey Gang... A temporary solution...

So... what happens when you take a simple door stop and combine it with a set of simple reflectors?

The reflectors fit NEAR perfectly! There is a tiny bit of play but nothing that cant be fixed with a good adhesive (or you could cut the rubber stopper to fit and press against the reflector - that would minimize the amount of the light). There is sticky tape attached to the backside but can be easily removed and then shine a light through?

Looks like a very acceptable found part stand-in for the real lights.

Looks good. I think they only issue is they are larger than the ones used, which I believe were about 2" diameter.

You're very welcome!!! I would suggest going to Home Depot for the stoppers. Lowes did not have a very good selection.

I found the reflectors at Lowes so I'm not sure if the Depot has them.

Here they are in various colors

    Good luck!

Good news! They are 2 1/4" wide so they are VERY close. And if Canobi can replicate a dome style lens...

I was hoping to of found the 'WB furnace' lens parts by now but just missed an auction for one before seeing this thread a while back (doh!). So, I've widened the search a little and, well, the Space 1999 variation reminded me of these two from Goldfinger...

Also, on the inside of the nook device are a few more different sized types. Ok the lenses are different but you can see the key to finding the real parts is in the bezel with that under-cut - must be from the same company.

    WHAT!?!1!

Oh! Then there's this shot from Goldfinger (I don't have the BluRay to hand), behind Q on the panel you see the same lenses affixed in a very similar way to the rear side of the Millenium Falcon's center console.

I'm guessing these parts date back to around 1963-64 in this particular form and size, although they do seem to be ever so slightly larger. Would be nice to find them and get them used in these latest projects!

Just poking my head in over here. I haven't seen it mentioned (too obvious?), and I don't know if it's even helpful, but that's a fresnel lens. I guess if no one advertises it as such, then it's moot. So anyway...

Taillight King looks like an awesome source. I did a quick look-around on eBay UK and came up with a possible:

    Ignition Red Panel warning lamp replaceable 12v bulb 18677 18678 18672 18674 186 | eBay

    (Looks too flat, though.)

There's also this, but the lip on the lens, if it's exposed, is wrong.

FIVE Panel Indicator Lamp Neon Red/Green/Amber 110V/240V/230V. UK SELLER | eBay

    Carry on!

    OK, one more thing:

I keep thinking it's from an industrial machinery panel. Surplus aircraft parts?

Hmm...although they look smaller, those do look very similar. That looks like it might be one of the more probable roads to check down now since we know aircraft parts were used in SW. Nice find!

I work in a distribution office, and have to deal with semi trucks a lot. When I see those light caps it makes me think of Running Light covers.

I took a picture of one, and even though this isnt the one, Im thinking that it was a vintage version of these

It would make sense that they are running light covers because the bulb is on the trailer and not part of the cover, and since they get broken alot, they would be really cheap and easy to come by.

I'm kind of partial to these Arcade style buttons.

    http://www.ultimarc.com/ultralux.html

But (if you had patience) you might find a larger and closer to correct item here.

Switches, industrial switches, 8mm 16mm 22mm 30mm switches, pushbuttons, emergency stops, rotary and selector switches, indicators, sub-miniature, key-lock switches, rugged keyboards, PIN-entry keypads

Their catalogue dosen't seem to have actual pictures but graphic representations.

Canobi is working on creating a dome lens to fit the door stoppers. I can't wait to see them! It will certainly bring these door stoppers to life!

Wannab, the Peterbilt truck indicator lenses are too flat if I recall. The reason I bought a cache of the items in question was for a work project unrelated to this topic. Truck and emergency indicators were my second go after basic video game/pinball versions but lacked the height of vintage indicator lenses.
My garage is jam packed and the weather isnt forgiving enough to tear things out to get to the area I think these are stored in.
Okay robstyle, it's nice weather now. Get to digging!

Good work on modding the doorstops SofaKing01, best way to go at the mo and works great in the MF. I'm now plagued with these lamp lenses lol (they are reaching iconic status in their own light) - Two films watched today and guess what...

    Fahrenheit 451

Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun

Though the Far Side shows as slightly recessed bezel and all props where reused for UFO, could still be a lead. Hopefully something will jog someones memory at some point.

Would appear that two years later the Daleks pinched Q's console for 'robotising' ops.

I'm still on the lookout, just missed another possible sale of this - which is still about the closest available to my eyes.

I will be mailing some peoples/companies in the next few days about these exact lens pieces - probably end up with a furnace lol.

This is awesome, great job guys. With all the variations, IMO the Fahrenheit 451 lights are the closest to good Ol' star wars (from the pictures on here) - Now I see them everywhere haha Can't wait to see what you guys dig up, loving this thread

    Hi Wavey,

I spent several months calling and emailing nearly 100 companies from the US to the UK to Australia with ZERO luck... Nobody could identify them at all. I hope you have better luck than I did. I've got my pompoms at the ready!

    Hi all,

Thought i would jump in and try and help locate these mystery parts.

To me, they look a lot like indicator lights on a B-24 bomber from WWII. Because of the time and what Lucas had available to him, wouldnt suprise me if he had a stock of these things lying around.

The buttons on the panel in yellow is a C-1 autopilot panel and the green is just a set of random indicator lights found scattered across the plane.

Id say someone go to a local airshow and take a picture of the light with them...."Excuse me sir, those planes are cool n' all, but have you see this indicator light?" almost positive you would find a match
