Hey all!

This is my first post here on RPF so I thought I better make it a good one. I'm building a blue Deadmau5 head for my girlfriend. Thinking of having the eyes flash different colors.

I'll make sure to post pics as I progress though the build. Any help/tips anyone can throw my way would be appreciated!

thanks!

Update....

-Got my giant rodent ball and wrapped it in fiberglass for support and strength.
-Sanded down all of the bumps and such.
-Cut down the hardhat for height issues.
-Got all of my LED's and 'eyes' in the mail.
-Cut out the eye and mouth holes.

you cant use hamster balls if you want a legit mau5head. because they dont make 14 inch hamsterballls .use either an acrylic globe or paper miche a ball thats 14 inches then fiberglass it so its sturdy.im not being rude i just want to help so your mau5 heads are acurate

The 14" globe is definitely the best way to go! Are you going to cloth wrap it? or do solid ears and paint them? ......Because I can tell you what NOT to do if you're wanting to do paint!

^^EXTREMELY true.. the first two mau5heads I made were paper mache, and they just dont hold their shape. With acrylic though, you just have to make sure than and chemicals you might use dont melt it. And for ears, 1.5" foam insulation board is the way to go.

thats the way to go! For my ears i used .25 foam board i salvaged from the the trash, and glued it together then covered in smoothcast 320. I began filling in some contours with bondo, but my whole process was flawed from the start! I plan on molding the ears now because they're too heavy from all the corrections with bondo! I i had to start over, i would just cut the ears from MDF and shape them to howi desire, then mold & cast them. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES!

This thread is over a year old but...

Covering a mau5head in fabric is a pain. 4-way stretch velvet is the way to go if you decide to go the fabric route.

I did a mau5head for Halloween a couple years ago. Everyone wanted a picture, and I ended up winning a couple hundred bucks at a bar contest. Deadmau5 is way more popular these days so I'm sure you'll have a good time.
