I tried to correct the tags, but your pics arenīt working, I guess because you linked to the photostream and not to the individual pics.

You need to copy the picture link, not the one from the photostream. Like this.

Or just link to the pool.

    Laser cut front visor parts

    Visor assembly

    finally getting somewhere

front visor support plate... scribed some lines to help at a later stage when removing material in the casts for the tinted visor

    glued in place

    remaking the ear recesses

added a small 2 mm piece of styrene at the back to make the plate angled slightly.. which will in-turn make the ear pucks angle like the real helmet

    cleaning up the base

visor lower lip glued in place

crude gluing but this will be cover with filler

top lip and visor in place

Tron light matrix layout... I plan on making 16 helmets....

4X EL wire / matte black painted at a car body shop

4X tron- blue leds and burnished metal- most likely sprayed at a body shop also

4X chrome- 2 without leds- 2 with full led 32x8 matrix and arduino nano

    4X raw casts

Im also having custom small metal coins made which will be inset into the plastic of each helmet. these will have my custom logo and helmet number...

Im studying product design at uni so i will probably make packaging for each also..looking at making a high quality almost display case box in a pyramid shape...

adding some styrene support for the filler

    horrendous application of filler

sanded a bit and that poor application never happened :S

making templates for the sides of the visor

i couldn't be bothered with the helmet the other night so i decided to make the perfect glove plates...

spent around 3 hours collating images of the newer style gloves and making illustrator files.. i then printed out the file and mounted on 1 mm styrene.. which i proceeded to cut out and shape with wet and dry paper... I never really had much of a plan as to how i was going to cut make the plates but all good things start with styrene...

    HERE IS MY REVOLUTIONARY MODELING TECHNIQUE;

    - Place a piece of paper down on a flat surface

    - add risers.. in this case i wanted 5 mm thick

    - Add a blob of bondo

    - and another sheet of paper

    - place a rigid piece of material on top and compress

    - once compressed leave until the filler starts to set... you can use the excess on your mixing pad to check if it has startred to set..

    - when the filler starts to set it becomes like rubber... you can peel away the two sheets of paper to be left with a 5mm rubber sheet of bondo which can be cut and shaped within reason.

    - I used my styrene templates to cut the filler to the rough shape

    - i then pushed it against a curved surface and rapped with tape to hold it in place.

    - Leave for 10 minutes and it will set to the forn of the srface youy taped it to.

    - sand

quite alot of wastage mind you

The glove parts need to be mounted to blocks or something before i vacuum form but ill do that at a later stage...

Enjoy it while you can. You'll really appreciate it once you have a full time job. I struggle just to find enough time to visit this site, let alone build my own stuff.

Fantastic build! I can't wait to see more...and at the rate you're posting, you probably just posted even MORE updates since I started this reply.

Keep up the awesome work! My mind has been blown.

Looking great so far - I have to say certain elements of your process seem remarkably familiar!

Looks like you've got access to some very fantastic tools - laser cutter and proper prototyping foam as well. Keep up the great work

I sure am. Just moved back from my flat in Glasgow to my mums in Falkirk for the summer

Yeah could you tell?... iv basically followed your process letter by letter and just changed small bits as i went lol... Hope This is ok

And yeah im at University studying Product Design so i have access to some modeling supplies and tools... I try to avoid the laser cutter as much as possible because everyone(including me) uses it far far to much. I always find it amusing how that no matter our design brief... someone always manages to make a laser cut flat pack solution. drives me nuts lol
