woohoo i got an email from John Matthews, a forerunner in arthurian lore and Celtic history, he served on teh film as a historian. he said they made 2 swords, one for film and one for pictures. the one in teh pictures was the first one and had runes, John said he told them that to make it more realistic they should use ogham and he wrote out the correct sentence, they then redid it and made it correct. so thats a great story and even though the runes would make a better look, im going with the ogham language...

    to be continued..

    huuge update!
i got oll the parts molded, i did a resin test and they came out fantastic! i took some advice from savage swords... i had to clean out the tang slot and actually cast the guard with the tang blank inside it, then tapped it right out. anyway heres some pictures of the resin handle put together, painted and weathered...

thanks for the kind words guys... and De Braga used hard green carving wax... i actually used a 2 inch belt sander to grind out the tang slot, thats how solid it is...

it will be in bronze hopefully soon... it will be beautiful...

I never understood how the smiths in old times was able to make such detailed work on jewelry or swords. They can't have had wax at those times could they?

Actually, lost-wax casting has been around for thousands of years: Lost-wax casting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Good question. Smiths used a variety of techniques through the ages to do all sorts of works most people would never think possible.

Here is a great modern smith who uses many traditional techniques to make beautiful swords.

TEMPL: Weapons - antiquity and early middle age

I make swords as well, but usually do not go into the detail that Patrick Barta does.
