So over the past few weeks I've been working on my Cosmo Dragoon Pistol from Space Pirate Captain Harlock.
Heres some shots of the progress thus far.
I'm planning on casting these in resin to be distributed as kits once the master is done.

Cool! I always liked the looks of this gun.
There was a licensed piece that came out a while back. I picked one up on eBay for less than $25 and did a repaint on it, but I always thought it looked/felt a little small for a "real" pistol.
I had always wanted to try building one of these up from a replica Colt Dragoon for added realisim.

I had considered modifying one of the revolvers but I just couldn't bring myself to purchase a functional firearm just to make it non-functional. I also plan on taking this one to conventions and the such with me and some of them are even getting pretty hardcore about non-firing props with moving parts.
I always liked this guy's buildup. Some of the details are simplified but I like how he made the grip and other parts. Looking on google in english will get you very few results but there's a wealth of information about the half-dozen or so kits that were produced if you look around on Google.jp

Thanks That looks fairly similar to what I'm looking to do with my kit. Personally I like th detail on the handle as an inlay rather than on the top like that but I think thats more of a personal preference thing. I cant wait to get the materials in to cast these and see what one looks like fully assembled and painted. Now its just a matter of waiting for smooth-on to ship out my order.
Inlaid is just as good, I only prefer the way his is painted/styled, it's less cheapy-cartoony looking than the popular kit version that was produced. The skull & crossbones is bigger and a little meaner while still having the same style.
You might want to check out this guy's blog, he did some pretty neat stuff with the spring-loaded breach arm.

Working my way down to the small details now. Scale has been a bit of an issue with getting it right so far but i've adjusted it and think it's much closer.

other than the TOS P2 phaser, this is my other favorite gun!
Going to be doing some more work on this today while the weather is nice. Hopefully more progress tonight.
Not to hijack but if the denix dragoon is the wrong model then what's the correct one Spike?
Resin and rubber will be here on the first. Should have a display model cast and painted no later than the 12th.
FWIW, this is the Denix I picked up:
Denix makes a variety of Dragoons. Looks like this one is closer:

hmm i may have to find a cast of one of those denix
looking forward to seeing how this turns out.. Been a fan of the series!
Wow great looking Harlock pistol, I used to watch the series when I got home from school
<I SO like this thread!
all Ive got is the Taito version and a resin kit that was apparently cast
from the Taito version.
Id really like to get the Vice Version but they are mighty expensive.,
it comes in 2 versions. one is metal with all moving parts and another is a cast version
cosmo1
The Merushin version, is WAY overpriced for its scale and lack of QC,., Its even smaller than the Taito version

Ill be looking forward to a cast if you offer them.
alternatively you can search for "Kosumodoragun" I find some japanese auctions searching for that. as well as some miniatures.
and Denix is just now offering the Dragoon again. its a ,49' instead of a 48', and it has a tacky etching of a Cavalry officer on horseback on the cylinder,
