So far i have washed mine with dish soap and really hot water. Then wiped down real well with acetone and i have sprayed a test area on the inside with the same Valspar Indigo paint i used on my TFA jailbreak helmet. It seems to be ok but i need to let it dry until tommorow to see how it holds up to the finger nail scraping test. It seems good and flexible so far.Superman said:
You painted it with which? Valspar as in enamel? That wont stick to well enamel is oit based, I sent out paint instructions to anyone that asked for them. Please feel free to email with questions on this as I stated at all times when the run was on.

So if I'm understanding this correctly you use the super glue gel to affix the leather ear guards and the eye/nose leather strip to the inside of the mask?

Sorry Sean thought I replied to your email, things are a little busy here right now.
Yes that is correct use the superglues gel flex to mount the ear covers and the nose bridge. You will cut the nose bridge length wise so it is only hald as wide and have a seam on only one side. Cut a wedge or two out where it bends over the eye if you need to. It's really easy just stat at one side and butt it up to the ear piece and glues along the leather to create a seamless joint.

Wow! I just picked up one of these second hand from BROTHERFOSTER and it arrived today, Finhead's build quality is top notch. BROTHERFOSTER's paint and distressed effects also look incredible. I recall seeing the screen used version at the FIDM exhibit here in LA a while back and this replica lid looks really damn close!
The lid fits my 23" head perfectly and has plenty of room for the leather piece, which kinda begs the question - is Chris Evans' head really that small? Or was this scaled down from the screen used version?
What worried me initially is my nose isn't as big as Evans', but I was pleasantly surprised how form-fitting the urethane lid is w/o being tight against my face like my TDK cowl, and even my smaller nose fits very well on Finhead's lid w/o looking out of place. This is actually very comfortable to wear around.
Anyone have pictures of the leather install? I'm new to this and want to make sure each piece goes where it's supposed to (and how it's supposed to). Thanks for your help!

The matched curvature of the leather around the nose and cheekbone areas is one of the most impressive things I've seen in a while. Superb attention to detail!
Edit, just realized this was a bit of a necrobump, but this thread popped up during my dragoncon rush and I missed it, so thanks to the guy who brought it back from the dead!

I've got one of these cowls (and I love it!). Anyway, sprayed it with acetone, and sprayed with Tamiya spray paint. Tamyia AS-8 (Tamiya Color Spray for Aircraft)
Now, for some reason the paints cracking. Is this because its too thick? Wrong paint?
Any suggestions? I'm beginning to think its had too much paint. I had done a couple of layers already, with a darker paint which wasnt right. So I sprayed the correct blue over the top.
Whats the best way to remove all the paint from this? Can i leave to soak in white spirit or something?
Again any suggestions or help would be great.

The best is to use the FW acrylic paints threw a airbrush as finhead suggested, paint adheres and flex without cracking. I stripped mine down using testors enamel paint thinner.
Gluing the leather, you need to glue in specific areas, you need to spot glue in areas as seen in photos, if you randomly glue on the flat surfaces bumps will show threw the soft thin urethane everywere you applied glue, also you need to sand the leather were you apply the glue or it wont stick because of the dye on the leather, I put glue on the highest point of the leather, basically between stitching and edge these are best areas so the soft urethane doesn't distort, check red dots in photo I attached
For the nose bridge leather, cut the ends in a angle so it meets flush with the side leather part for a seamless look, but leave it longer to make sure you don't end short when you reach the other side, I cut a small "V" notch were the leather curves ( below the eye) so I can bend the leather to follow the curvature, again spot glue, start on one side and work yourself to the other side, hold in place and test fit until it fits perfect on the other side and cut in angle.
