The 1/8" aluminum I used was from a "sign blank". This is a 24" x 24" piece of aluminum that sign companies use to make a street sign. Call a local sign shop and see if they can provide one.

Awesome work!
One of my best friends wants to go as Captain America for DragonCon, but he never knew were to find a decent shield for a good price. Now I can just make one for him!![]()
im curious, how do you get those holes filled, and still get the metal look?
EOS, I was wondering that same thing...
There are a few products that are available.
-JB Weld
-Epoxy Steel
-Bondo
-Devcon
I used Epoxy Steel for the first shield. Just have to take lots of care sanding it after it dries. The Wet/Dry automotive sandpaper works good. If you are a wiz with welding, you could tig/mig weld a piece in.
Actually I found something that seems to work even better.
3M Bondo Plastic Metal. It is easier to work with and matches the metal color more accurately. About $10 a tube.
Bondo(R) Plastic Metal, 901, 5 oz, 6 per case
A couple set of brackets for a couple HUNDRED dollars... And thats not much!?
That sounds like a lot... i had CNC machine parts done in Montreal, which cost a fortune for like $300 + taxes. Thats complete CNC work in metal for some custom handguards for a rifle i used to own. I made 10 of them, and resold 8.
I found 2 dishes about the right size, but they are slightly oval. I guess I'll have to measure from the center and cut the edge round.
