Apr 25, 2010 - Building the Hoth Wampa door set ... in a nutshell #1

Here is a way to make a huge project look easy

    The finished set:

And a quick look at the progress:

    Our Snowtrooper armor:

That's me in Hyperdyne's Stay Puft costume. It's not as cool as it looks:

Christopher Judge (Teal'c from Stargate), my wife and I:

Tim Rose (Puppeteer, Ackbar), my wife and I:

I think this Jawa took a wrong turn:

For those who don't know. This is a set from a deleted scene in Empire Strikes Back. The rebels corralled some wampas in this room and had a warning sign to alert the rebels to the danger. When the Imperials attack 3po tears the warning sign off, which is why he was lagging behind and Han said he would become a permanent resident. The snowtroopers go into the room and get attacked by the wampas.

    Perfect recreation!
Built just like the original - hot wire and foam.
Is this going to be at C5 too?

That is one AMAZING SET! thanks for sharing the construction photos. One of my favorite things about the RPF is to see the behind the scenes documentary style cataloging.

    Great job to all involved.
    Where/what was this built for?

I'd love to get some pics of my ESB Vader standing in that mini set to emulate this shot.

Sort of like this. This is my ESB Vader photoshopped onto a background image. It would be really cool to shoot him on your mini set.

Cal, here are a couple more hi-res pics I took - and a small movie!

It is a great set indeed. Hoping to get it out to C5 for everyone to see.

Matt looks a bit trigger happy in the snowy pic! Firing off his blaster mid air.

Great work indeed! Not sure of your motives, but I love that you invested so much into an obscure, cut scene that not everyone is aware of.

    Bravo!
