Re: Building an Aliens Motion Tracker - need some help
I was just lucky to find all the right items in a short amount of time, and the tutorial made by Hyperdyne Labs was very helpfull.

You know what I think that rotary switch is actually? The release valve on sphygmomanometers, it would make sense since they opened up one for the "gauge" (as most of you know already, the gauge thing was later identified to be originated from an aneroid) ![]() They make them in all sorts of shapes and I think I even found the flat one that appears in one scene before mentioned

Re: Building an Aliens Motion Tracker - need some help
Isn't the valve too small? Or do they come in different sizes? The rotary switch looks much bigger.

Re: Building an Aliens Motion Tracker - need some help
Judging from the last picture that large knob should be about 2cm. But the one posted before (the preproduction pictures) shows one that is at least half the size, that one is very likely an air release valve from a sphygmomanometer.
It would explain why it's silver coloured. Later I'll pull my sphygmo out and check it out if the dimension fit. Stay tuned. |

Re: Building an Aliens Motion Tracker - need some help
Ok the normal shygmomanometer release valve has the right dimension to match this one
![]() Around 1 cm diameter. The flat large one could be from another kind of aneroid. I've seen different kinds around and it might aswell be this one ![]() I should enquiry about its diameter. |

Re: Building an Aliens Motion Tracker - need some help
Sweet! I actually have one of those knobs in my parts drawer. I haven't figured out a way to remove it from the rod that goes into the rubber bulb yet, but I'll just dremmel it off if need be.

The large flat ones are a bit harder to come by but I'm sure we could find a decent supplier once we can estabilish for sure that that's what they are Last edited by Jonesythecat; 04-01-2010 at 07:09 AM. |

Re: Building an Aliens Motion Tracker - need some help
More on the sphygmomanometer theory came from MedwayPVB ('PVB' on alienlegacy forum) who noticed, after seeing my posts, that the wire coming out of the hama viewer could well be in fact the aneroid plastic cable. This would explain the metallic elements at the ends of that cable.
