I would be 100% willing to purchase a pair of these for ~$50. Keep us posted on the progress and if you're going to make a run of these available for purchase.

Here is a quick update guys . I got the tint on. Gotta work out the kinks on getting the air bubbles out but here it is..
How it looks through the glasses
Here it is in the sun
What do you guys think?
Not too shabby already although perfecting the application technique to avoid bubbles is your next step.
Interested to see if you can get it any more opaque & dull on the outside. Perhaps a double layer of tint or a single darker one?
I scuffed it with sand paper bc I didn't have any scotch brite around and it helped . I will test that some more and see what I get
So I reapplied the tint just a few mins ago. It looks 100 times better. I don't think I will ever get every air bubble out but the are so small from 3 feet away you can't see them. I still haven't got to try and scuff them yet. I will try that at work in the morning . Here are the latests pics
And here are the tiny tiny bubbles
What do you guys think? If this was the finial product ( if the scuffing doesnt work) would anyone still be interested in a run? I would love to hear feedback on it.
Thanks guys
Something to consider to give it that brushed metal look: (And I don't know if this will work)
Take a wide stiff paint brush, and pull or cut out the majority of the bristles so anything you paint will be extremely streaky with whitespace in between. Then dip the brush in glass etching fluid and with only one or two fluid strokes over the surface, paint the front of the plastic.
It could give that nice brushed look while still letting enough visual information slip "in between" the streaks of etching fluid to let the wearer see clearly.
Could be worth a try. It's what I've always planned on doing if I ever got around to tackling this.

I may try that if the other method doesn't work
Ok so I scuffed the tint with with scotch brite this morning. While it did give it more of a metal look it does make it very hazy when looking through them. What do you guys think ? Clear vision or more screen accurate?
There is a good and easy Way to remove ALL Air.
In my first Job in Media Technology, Print Media Sector, i learned following:
Before you add the Foil on the Surface, use a Mix of Soap and Water, spray it on the Foil and the Surface you want to add it.
Then lay it on the Surface, take a CLEAN Blanket and press the Water out.
You can use also a Spatula or Credit Card (and other flat Things) and wrap the Blanket around it, so you can press the Water out a little better.
Don΄t work in the Sun, do it indoor.
Yeah i tried that at the start. With it having such a curved surface when you try and push the water out it just pushes the tint around. it basically makes the ting not sticky until the water is out, yet you cant get the water out because the tint wont stay in place lol. I will try it again tonight and see if using less water will help
Could you apply the tint before curving the plastic? Maybe make it easier?
its has to get 300 degrees to bend. I think that may take the tint off lol
I reapplied the tint last night. I think I have the process down for no air bubbles!
Here is my latest attempt! Next it to scuff them
What do you guys think?
You really got your technique perfected it seems. Kudos for keeping at it. Looks great.
These are really cool... how do they look on a face? I assume they bend/flex a bit to fit various sized heads
Sorry - off-BTTF-topic. Where did you get the mirrored tint film? Is it the same as something for a car, or different? I am trying to refinish a kid-safe mirror at home...
Here they are after being scuffed
What do you guys think?
Scuffing looks great! Now time for a final prototype I think, with smooth edges & such!![]()
I plan on reforming this pair tonight or tomorrow. I made the a little too round lol. I think i will throw up an interest thread in the JY tonight or tomorrow
Depending on how difficult it is for you to get the tint consistent you might want to truy selling kits as well. Looking forward to seeing a completed prototype!
