Boromir's Shield Straps- (plus shield update 6-07)

Hope this is in the right spot!

Mike (blindsquirrel) and I are "tag teaming" a set of Boromir's shields from Lord of the Rings.
He's working on the shields, and I was to do the leather straps. I was extra nervous about the project,
since up to this point, all leather projects have been personal n nature ^^;

I'm happy with the resin stamp thing. Will definitely be using that method again

Sending these out on Monday, and looking forward to seeing everything together when Mike gets them!

Beautiful just, beautiful.

I never knew how leather was printed with a pattern or 'tooled' until i saw this - simply marvelous work!!

Oh wow! Nice method with the leather-stamping! I can not wait to see how they look with the shield! I hope you share more progress of this collaboration.

G17RDY- There's rollers and other devices available in addition to smaller stamps that you use with a mallet, like embossing machines and the like, but the wallet said no to most presses (especially for the need to get custom dies made for this project), so this was a bit of a random ghetto budget idea. They won't hold out forever, but if i have problems with them, i'll just press them into some more sculpey, and pour resin in them to make new ones

Bilious- This is about as far as I'm going with my end (though i did my best to post photos n' such in the blog) , so once Mike gets them he'll be attaching them to the shields, and having new plates made for the buckles. He'll be covering the shield build!

Looking forward to the next project we're doing (some gun n' holster, though the names escape at the moment)

I can't say enough about Fev's leatherwork and attention to detail. There were details that I was willing to let go but she went the extra mile to make these things as accurate as possible. I'll definitely be posting pics once I get them attached to the shields.

If anyone needs first-rate leather work from a dependable artisan, give Fev a yell!

I'm not much into LOTR props but I do have to say that this is most excellent work! Good job!

How did you manage to get the stitching so straight? Are you using some kind of guide?

I presume then that you do small commission works??

I've a project in mind, But its a one off job consisting of two pieces - A leather wallet & leather bound journal (Notepad) with an embossed White tree of Gondor on the Front - I may have to talk to you some more in the future!!!

CSMacLaren- I used this tool, which makes it a lil easier to keep things straight. if the stitching varies in terms of how close to the edge it needs to be, I'll adjust it so the groove cutter is further away from the main shaft and hand guide it ^^

Here are pics of Fev's beautiful straps attached to one of the final shields.
You can buckle the strap for carrying the shield on the back...

or for sticking in your funeral boat!

The shield is surprisingly light and comfortable slung over the shoulder.

Fantastic job both yous, shield and straps.
I saw the funeral boat when the LOTR stuff was on display at the NHM in Houston, and this def could have slipped right in there!

Blindsquirrel and Feveron, I love your work!. The shield is awesome and one of my most searched item from LOTR. I already own the sword, bracers and horn, so I would like to know it you are still producing the shield, so I can get it to complete my collection. Thanks and congrats for this incredible shield!.
