Bio-Neural Gel Pack (Mock-up)
Here is one of those projects I have wanted to do for a while.
This is just a prototype/mock-up using ABS for the bracket pieces. I will be doing the Hero with Aluminium brackets and it will also have the decals as well ![]() Deciding what to use for Gel was a challenge as well. ![]() propmaster2000 . Last edited by propmaster2000; 04-16-2008 at 06:47 AM. |

How are you keeping the gel from settling to the bottom of the pouch?

if you look closely there is less gel on the top of the pack.. The pack is absolutely awesome though.. You should try and build a backlight display - or diorama for this. The backlighting will really make it look like the bio-neural gel... a couple isolinear chips, some colored translucent tubing here and there will make an awesome display. awesome work! very unique |

Re: Bio-Neural Gel Pack (Mock-up)
Maybe I didn't say it right
Yeah the bag looks pretty full but the gell is some sort of colored fluid (what exactly) What is the whispy foamy bubble stuff? There appears to be at least two bags involved and inner bag which may be compartmentalized somehow and the outer one that goes over the side support rods. My guess is that outer one isn't holding any fluid in place. It looks like there are a few nifty tricks in the details. Got any more pix or a nice how too? |

Re: Bio-Neural Gel Pack (Mock-up)
Here's some information on the gel packs and some pics for the non-Trekkies:
Bio-neural gel packs are a form of computer technology used by Starfleet, first developed circa 2370. The gel packs form the basis of the bio-neural circuitry, which is essentially an organic computer system. The packs contain neural fibers surrounded in a blue gel with metallic interfaces on the top and bottom. They help store more information and operate at faster speeds than isolinear circuitry. The fibers in an individual gel pack are capable of making billions of connections, thus generating an incredibly sophisticated and responsive computing architecture. This kind of organic circuitry allows computers to 'think' in very similar ways to living organisms; by using 'fuzzy logic', they can effectively operate by making a 'best guess' answer to complex questions rather than working through all possible calculations. This is due in part to the inherent nature of organic neural systems to correlate chaotic patterns that yet elude the capacities of conventional hardware. The USS Voyager was one of the first vessels equipped with the technology. (VOY: "Caretaker") Due to the fact that organic matter cannot be stored at quantum levels, gel packs cannot be replicated. (VOY: "Learning Curve") Voyager stored their spare gel packs in engineering locker Gamma 5. (VOY: "Renaissance Man") Like other biological forms, gel packs are susceptible to bacteria and viruses. * They were infected with bacteria due to cheese created by Neelix. (VOY: "Learning Curve") * A gel pack in the mess hall was infected with a macrovirus, and led to an outbreak when it ruptured. (VOY: "Macrocosm") * During a voyage through a Mutara-class nebula, the gel packs began to fail due to subnucleonic radiation. (VOY: "One") Bio-neural gel pack sequence 6-Theta-9 is located on Deck 4 of an Intrepid-class starship. (VOY: "One") Gel packs can be modified by injecting a type of serum into the packs in order to return a ship caught in numerous temporal periods, such as caused by a temporal anomaly, to a single temporal period. This process returns the ship to a few seconds before the anomaly occurs. (VOY: "Shattered") When members of the Hierarchy species kidnapped Captain Kathryn Janeway, The Doctor was forced to steal gel packs by posing as B'Elanna Torres. However when Janeway was rescued by Tom Paris and Tuvok the gel packs were returned to Voyager. (VOY: "Renaissance Man") ![]()

see? see? translucent colored tubing and backlighting.. would make a hell of a display piece.
Sorry - I get excited when I see cool star trek stuff |

Re: Bio-Neural Gel Pack (Mock-up)
I'm thinking the blue gel in those soft reuseable icepaks from the drugstore would look good. The stuff already lives in its own sealed plastic bag so all you'd need to do is move it to a new one!

Propmaster,
After seing the screencaps I noticed that the screenused packs don't have the rods in them. Why did you put rods in yours??? |
