I'm looking for tips/brands to clearcoat a lightsaber. I want to polish the aluminum, brass, and copper to a mirror shine (thought on that?), but then what? How do I prep the surface? What brand of clearcoat is the most durable? I want to handle my saber, and the one time I tried clearcoat it flaked off almost immediately.
I would think all clears would flake off of metal in time. Not to pry, but why would you not want to have your sabers look like they have been used/handled/tossed about?
For some sabers, I consider weathering a must. For others, I like them shiny. It depends on the saber. I'm getting an OB1 ROTS and I don't want the copper to go green over time, and I'd like the alum portions look as close to chromed as possible. I guess I could just break it down and polish it now and then, but what a pain!
Alsa has clear for you application. They have a spraycan clear that sticks to chrome.

Wow, that's pricey! It would be cheaper to just have it chromed! Maybe there's a Krylon or something?
