Arkham City Nightwing and Robin Costume Ideas & Help

Costume Ideas/Help for Nightwing and Robin
So I want to make costumes of Nightwing and Robin, but I'm not sure where or how to start. This is going to be my first time attempting to make a legit costume, so please be as specific as possible.

For Nightwing, I was thinking of a black wetsuit and using some sort of black tape to get the "sections" look of his outfit. And the blue logo, maybe something with paper clay/mache? Also what do you all recommend to use to hold his escrima sticks on the back (I want this to be not be bulky either).

For Robin, I'm not sure what material to use to make the arm guards and shin guards. Also how would I make the armor look for the red shirt? And also what should I use to make his belt and cape that's black on the outside and yellow on the inside.

Like I said, I am new to this but want to make this as legit as possible. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Maybe some LD45 or thinner foam padding over fabric, which can be spray painted later?

I'd definitely suggest Foam or casting for the arm guards.

It doesn't really look like shin guards, but rather just boots.

The pants look rather generic in this photo though, which I've never noticed.

Thank you for your input, but what is LD45 or thinner foam padding? Also, what kind of foam do you suggest for the arm guards and "shin guards." (I believe they are cuz if you have the game and do a character bio look you can see they are separate from the boots.)

I used this wetsuit for my Nightwing suit. Wetsuit Wearhouse: 5mm Men's NeoSport Full Wetsuit - I used blue fabric paint from AC Moore. It gets warm and you do sweat a bit, but I didn't find it unbearable or anything.
I made mine before Arkham City came out so my only reference were the comic books.
