Arkham Asylum Batarang

So after reading the horror reviews on the collector's edition batarang and its general bashing in most people's opinions I decided to build one myself! Im trying to make it so that It can fold however Im not sure how to make it double up on itself so that It can fold fully...

Heres what I have so far! I made this using two layers cut out of laser ply using a laser cutter, I then beveled the edge by hand as I dont trust myself on the belt sander enough to do it all on there :P






As you can see I counter beveled the little cap/disk thing and the half of the batarang as well so that the bolt will sit inside it unseen! Ive only made one half as my plan is to mould it and cast two halves to make the whole prop, my plan is then to cast magnets into the batarang halves so that when you unfold the batarang it will snap into a certain position and hold there.

hmmm someone should mold a hard rubber one, bet that would make one helluva dog toy

Hah i was actually thinking that a urethane rubber one would be good

and i looked at that tutorial but the problem is that the two halves are on top of eachother and so arent on the same level, I am making it so that they are on the same level but still fold... if that makes sense

Its been a while since I played Arkham Asylum, so maybe my memory is foggy, but I dont remember the rangs folding in the game. Why would you want your model of them to fold? Seems like it wouldnt be "screen accurate".

Actually in one cutscene you see batman flick one of them out and its unfolds, plus I plan on using the magnets so that you can - if you wish - display it as unfolded or folded
