Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device
For all those that are somewhat addicted to the world of Portal from Valve, I'd like to present my first project undertaking which is a replica of the Portal Gun from the game.
It doesn't do much unfortunately, just a show piece really. A blue light shines, but no blue portal opens unfortunately. Hope it's to your liking. So, let the idioms flow! ![]() ![]()

Re: Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device
Can't say the Gravity Gun really appeals to me as much as the ASHPD, not as clean cut and smooth. Even though mine isn't *that* smooth due to my techniques.
I think if I ever started a job which required a labcoat, it would have an Aperture Science logo on the breast. Or Umbrella Corp. |

Awesome work! I've always wanted to make myself one of these. Yours is easily the best replica I've seen out there. Great job!

NICE!!
Any build progress pics? Now you need a Weighted Companion Cube to go with it. Scot Quote:

Re: Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device
That looks really nice. If you ever want to build something else from a Valve game, get Jed's Half-Life Model Viewer (for things based on Half-Life 1) or the Source SDK (for games based on Half-Life 2). Those programs will let you look at the models used in the game from any angle, any size, in any animation. If you're really serious, you can export models from the games into a 3D program and build your prop right from the source.

Re: Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device
Good work. When I saw the thread title, I instantly started singing the song in my head hehe. Thats mad!
*But there's no sense in crying over every mistake You just keep on trying till you run out of cake And the science gets done, and you make a neat gun For the people who are still alive! |

Re: Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device
Very creative way of doing your research! But you do know you can export the model from the .GCF file? If you ever want to do more models from the VALVe games, keep that in mind. It can save you a lot of time!
Other than that, great work. I really like the result. |
