    Oct 31, 2006 - Is anybody interested in a "business" partnership...? #1

Ok, this is a VERY long shot, but...
I was thinking at a little project, it's still in the first stages, so feel free to chime it and give me your thought...
I've seen some damn cool works done by some of the members here, and I was amazed by your talent.
Then the WETA has released the images of their "custom" props, a series of outstanding vintage-style ray guns... And WE know we want these guns...

    Now...

I'm a concept artist and a designer (mainly I'm a comic artist, but we don't care about this... ), but I don't have access at the right "tools" for my prop ideas (and I've ZERO experience with power tools or CNC machines or whatever...).

And HERE I had the idea...
What do you think about a line of props made by a "team" of RPF members interested in doing some custom props (like sci-fi guns, knives, fantasy items, etc)?
I have a lot of ideas...
You know, a serie of weapons-props Van Helsing style, another one with some cool sci-fi gatgets, like blasters, scanners, communicators...

I can do the concept art and also the blueprints (I think )... And maybe I can do some 3D too.
Now I wanna know what do you think about this idea (obviously we shoud try to SELL these products).

I will post some rough concepts if I see some interest, so, tell me how MAD I am

    Start destroying my EGO!

C'mon, even bad crits are useful...

Seriously noone want to do some "prop-art"? Or at least tell me what do you think about this idea
I know that's a weird idea, but I want to hear your opinions anyway.

    Thanks

Are you thinking of just making random things, or will they be related to movies... like Star Wars, LOTR, etc.
Are you thinking about creating another licensed prop replica company, with a team of RFP members?

Do you know how the copyright laws are if you wanted to do that? Would you just pay royalties or something?

I'm not sure what your wanting to do.

I'd be interested in seeing some original designs if I catch your drift. If you made somethign really cool, and offered it at a fair price for the work that went into the item hopefully you'd find a market.

Did you say something about posting some rough ideas so we could get a look at an example?

    Thank you for your interest.

I'm doing a couple of sketches just to show you the kind of random stuff I was thinking about (just quick ideas, not the final things)...

@Jiminy Jedi: No, I don't want to do copyrighted stuff or another company like MR or Qmx (they are enough for the market), I was thinking at doing some stuff maybe "inspired" by a genre (sci-fi, horror, adventure, etc...) not by existing things. But I can use stuff from my own comics or from some stories of a friend of mine (he is a writer, and usually he writes the script for my comics), but this is just another (probably stupid) idea...

I'll post some images in about 1 hour.
    Thanks again.

Custom stuff is fun, I've got experience working in wood/plastic and have access to vac-forming facilities. I can paint as well. I'd be down for something.

    The images...

First a set of "holy weapons" (something useful for fight a monster)...

Then a concept art (and a 3d model done by a friend of mine) of a prop from one of my comics, a key disguised as an ancient Egyptian scarab...

Well, this is just a "test", so these are some spare and quick concepts, but I'm sure we can make something WAY more interesting if we share our ideas...
    Let me know

I'd be intrested in helping out possibly. I'm an armouer, dabbling in gunsmithing, and work with props all the time.

Well, I can bring some talent to the table as well, not too bad with the resin and a dremel. I can doodle too

    I'm interested.

First thing I thought of was this:

Could be made from one of the edison giocattoli toy guns sold by Kapowwe.

Just thought I would throw this out there. I think there might be some artists here who are itching to see their artwork become a reality, so why not have a contest of sorts? Artists could submit their concepts, the membership could vote to choose a winner, and that item could then be produced.

I'm sure this would be a long road with some problems, but I think it could be done.

I envision it being a small-ish handheld weapon that would not be incredibly expensive (less than $100) per copy. Make it as close to an at-cost project as possible with the winning designer getting one for free. Leave the design timeframe open for a few weeks (4?) then the voting phase, then production of the winning item? We could do this up real cool and everything with a limited edition RPF plaque and all.

I would be willing to volunteer my services on the production end.

Like I said, just a thought.
