    Feb 20, 2011 - Anybody got a SK2000L "Tron" Helmet? Needed as reference! #1

I've got all the graphics drawn up to make Tron Helmets.

Been trying to buy one but $100-$150 is too much right now.

Any body want to lend me one?

    I have one...

What do you need it for? Are you going to make casts?

I'd recommend using a medium instead of a large if you are going for screen accuracy.

The Med and Large have no difference, size wise.. the only difference was the foam thickness.

Edit* sorry there is a difference one has M the other L

The small and the medium have no differences in the shell. Just foam thickness like you said. The large is considerably larger and has extra vent holes in the rear section.

No one wants a bobble headed program!

    I get what your saying...

but unless I have a large mellon this sucker is tight.

sorry I think you may be thinking Jr sz.

I just tried it on it is still tight... AND bobble head is the furthest thing you be thinking wearing one of these helmets.
Here it is placed by my AP helmet, just to help with scale.

THose mediums are super tight with the padding on there but if you watch the film and check out some of the other reference in other threads you can see they basically removed the forehead foam completely. The actors brow is right up against the plastic there.

Here is the best pic of the inside padding from Mr Sinistar's amazing reference photos-

    Thx Nick,
Here is a shot of SZ info.. with a date stamp.

and yes there are differences in holes and such the sz of the parts are still the same.
    improvements and safety standards.

models change from year to year..

    So what's the verdict here.

I just automatically thought LARGE (so I could wear it), but if MEDIUM is more screen correct.

(I really shouldn't be wearing one anyway)

    I'll do them in medium.

    So what do you think?

Black and white? Reflective tape for great photos? Painted a cool blue? Electronics?

I'm changing this to a build thread. Although it may go really slow. But I'll show my drawings so far, shortly.

Alter one, make copies of that and not hack up anymore hockey helmets.

THat date stamp is super cool. My medium doens't have it sadly.

I don't know if it'll be of any help, but I did notice in my helmet research that there is actually one small variation SK 2000 molds.

The front vent holes. Some are more squarish with rounded corners than the screen used ones.

    Square hole-

    Rectangle hole-

    Screen used-

    Weird Huh?

They made these helmets for a couple decades so I'm sure variations occurred.

    Hey guys,
Mic, IMO the difference between my helmet and the ones Nick posted are minimal. If you are going to be casting them you will be filling the some of the front holes.. So filling one extra in the back will make it an accurate to that particular helmet.

I've seen many different hockey helmets due to living in Canada, And playing it during highschool..
SK 2000 haven't really changed in shape or fit.
The only differences I've seen are the holes, Round,square,rectangle.. More holes one year than the next. The foam interior shapes also..
But if your making these for the masses, why not use mine and Nicks and you'll have the best of both, seeing that med and large shells are the same and interchangeable.
I'll take some measurements later tonight.
Also the foam interior can be adjusted to fit most heads

And if you look at the screen caps the helmets are extended to the max.

LMK if you want me to send mine.

I'm unearthing this thread somewhat, but was doing my own cooper sk 2000 research. The medium and large shells are identical. However some mediums have 4 holes and then like my own pair of mediums, some have 5. The foam just changed thickness and was labelled accordingly. Actually if you have a medium, look at the inside of the forehead on the shell, it'll say large.!

Unfortunately with the advent of eFx presenting a prototype at SDCC, this was pushed to the back burner. I really liked what they did and would rather have what they are planning than what I was planning, which I had not completely planned out anyway.

So with the continuing kind assistance of the above donor, I am sitting on this half done project for possible future work.

Not a Dead Project, but definitely in traction.
