Another possible branch on the ST family tree?

Here are the pics:






Looking for opinions on origin, lineage, what version, etc.

Looks like one of those fiberglass rotj helmets that were floating around out there.
Not sure how much of it's form is unmodified original vs. scratchbuild.

It's not fiberglass.



This helmet was used by Don Post Studios and made by LFL to be used as reference for their Deluxe line of helmets.

Looks like the brow trim was glued on at some point and then removed leaving tracks on the cap and back.

Could be a tour helmet.

The inside of the helmet looks quite aged , this could very well be an original modified at some point.

I can&#39;t tell the colour from the pics some look white some look grey.

Is it discoloured white plastic or grey? Has it been painted in ay way?

The helmet was painted grey at some point. I can&#39;t tell what the material is. It feels more stiff than styrene.



The yellow line is a glue line that holds the face to the rear piece. The ear caps are also glued on.

Given all the opinions about the traps on various buckets, I thought this pic was funny in a way:

There is no denying that this is a ROTJ styled helmet.

It&#39;s either from the LFL ROTJ molds or cast from an actual helmet IMHO, hard to say but it has some nice super sharp typical ROTJ earcaps .....

I&#39;m not sure this helmet was ever complete or it should have some glue residue around the eyes where the bubble lenses were glued on , same thing for the hard hat liner or yellow foam insert.

Looks like an ROTJ "hero" version to me. Not sure if hero is the correct name for it, but you know what i mean, the softer detail helmet with those funny ears and big mic tips.

Would the helmet come apart so it could be molded. I like the shape of the right tube.

I&#39;ve been talking to JM about this. The one thing that jumped out at me was how soft it was uin a number of places, key being the tears which dont seem to ave the "pinching" I would have expected see.

Of course this could suggest that its a 2nd gen cast off an ROTJ helmet, or maybe some of ROTJ&#39;s were softer?

I&#39;m sure Stormtrooper John will have a view given his own helmet

It looks to me like it was pulled straight from the original ROTJ moulds.Either that or it&#39;s a direct recast.I don&#39;t see any evidence of a lining or chin strap so that suggest&#39;s to me that it was never worn and would comply with JM&#39;s reference story.I know one thing....I like it

Very interesting....

At first glance I&#39;d say it&#39;s derived from an ROTJ helmet - and it doesn&#39;t look significantly softer than ROTJ buckets IMO
I&#39;d be surprised if Lucasfilm still have the ROTJ helmet moulds, and it&#39;s doubtful they would create moulds from an existing helmet specifically for Don Post. My guess is it was formed from the Special Edition / Tour moulds at LFL (which were created from an old ROTJ helmet), so any clean-up or modification was done at that time for the Special Edition helmet mould.

Also the helmet looks quite narrow &#39;n&#39; tall... Javamonkey, could you take a straight-on pic of the front of the helmet, level with it (not looking down on it) and from about 7-8 feet back with your camera zoomed in on it? Would be interesting to see

The reason I thought it looked soft was this shot of the tear



Which doesnt seem to have the same "pinching" on the front lower edge of the tear that the RotJ i&#39;ve seen (like yours) seemed to have. IMO this was caused by LFL "recasting" an HDPE Stunt helmet - thus replicating the pinching.

Therefore my view is that its from a new mould made either by LFL for their SE&#39;s/Tour helmet or otherwise perhaps Don Post did one before they decided to opt instead for a bespoke/mirrored design used for their "deluxe"helmets and life size

Thats a strange way to attach the mic tips. Has anyone here who has seen the inside of an original ROTJ, SE or Tour helmet know if they were attached the same way?

The mic tips are resin (very light) with a screw post cast into them.

Man that lid looks sweet. It has curves in the right places for me

Agreed... I hadn&#39;t paid much attention to the tear areas on this helmet, but they certainly appear shallower and don&#39;t have the pinching along the edges of the tear area. I&#39;d love to see a Special Edition / Tour helmet up-close to see if the Tear area on them shows the same traits as this helmet.
