Im currently in the process of constructing a PVC "stunt" version of this saber. Since I've finaly reached a point where there is actualy something to photograph soon I figured that I could go ahead and start a thread on it
I wanted to have something to duel with and since I've always liked this saber, so I decided to try and tackle it. I got the plans from The Sith Archives and used those to rough out the shapes and lengths. Since its going to be used for fighting, Im not too concerned with accuracy, but Im getting as close as I possibly can.
I based the saber around a 3/4th PVC pipe. Since PVC is measuered using the inside diameter, I figured up the rest using rough estimates of pipe thickness and such. The main body is made from 1in PVC and the shroud and band are made from 1 1/4. I used granitex scuplting compound and styrene sheet to build up the details, with Magic Sculpt as a seam filler. I'm still in the process of gather up other greebles for it and I need to figure out some way of constructing the grips.
I'll be spraying it with Krylon gloss black and then krylon chrome for a decent finish with some krylon ultra flat black for the band and other bits. I'll use enamals and acrylics for touch ups and slight weathering.
Im going to for a more used and lived look since its already quite rough. I'll post pictures tomorrow when I've finished sanding and shaping the main parts.
Building this saber to fight with, I have to say, Im shocked at how small it really is. I really dont see how it was even used in the movie. There is almost nowhere to hold it without something jabbing you in the hand.
