I have a new Darth Maul batle damaged saber made by Roman. I'd like to get aluminum black in the appropriate 'grooves' so the coloring is correct, but I'm not sure what to use to mask off the parts I don't want the AB to darken. I'm not sure if painters tape will do the trick, or if I can use renaissance wax (I already have some), or if there's something else that's simple to use. Any ideas?

If you use tape, dont use any 'papery' tape that could absorb the liquid, you need something plastic like brown parcel tape.
In any case, I believe Al Black comes off real easy if you don't seal it , so any overspill you can simply buff away.

I've tried tape and there's always some seepage under the tape. Maybe liquid masking? I don't know. Honestly, for those small detail parts, I'd just do a wash. My $.02

I bought it online from somewhere or other. It's cool stuff, but man, make sure you do the work outside. That stuff is noxious.

I got it at a local gun store.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try the plastic tape and if that doesn't work very well, I'll see if I can buff out the overspill.

Try black electrical tape, wrap the area more then once and make sure it's really tight.
